Heh, nothin' personal. Count yourself lucky that you weren't one of the four of us w/ nonfunctional supras over the last week. Its a GOOD thing you weren't included, trust me

Anyway, I'm still down, but the Toyota gasket set came in today, $370 later...

The top-end rebuilt kit:

The redesigned stock Toyota head gasket:

Too soon junior!

My car was down for 4 weeks, and I just got it running 2 weeks ago.

DC450: That's a gasket set, nothing more... You sorta need rods and pistons and such to rebuild a motor

Nashman: I haven't even pulled the head off the old motor, I just ditched it behind a garage, haven't had much luck parting it out so far.

I'm hoping that's the majority of it. I'll also need new plugs, oil, coolant, possibly head bolts, cam cover screws, and other little things. It shouldn't be too much more, I hope.

Fuzebox:
Damn, I knew your car was down for a bit I didn't think it was that long?!! Ouch. You went with a JDM block right? I was soo close to looking for a used GTE block & all the parts but I need to get my car back ASAP, Its sux bussing to work - especially if you're off after the busses stop running

i think im gonna get some of the hex bolts next time im at lordco... i think one of my next projects will be to polish the valve covers.

err... that and a shitload of other stuff ive been meaning to do.

just noticed too that my front right fog lamp is full of water too, guess i cracked the housing going on my little new years day journey... guess its time to throw in the matrix foglights ive had collecting dust for like 2 years

new pistons to rebuild and engine?

damn, didn't think you had to do that much to rebuild and engine. I thought it might just be honing/gaskets/piston rngs/valve springs... didn't know you had to put in new components.. but that wouldn't only be if they were unuseable..... correct?

forgive my piston engine stupiditiy

i'm more of a rotor man!

for a FRESH rebuild, everything is replaced. rods, pistons, bearings, all seals and gaskets. however, you can rebuild reusing the stock pistons, etc if they are in good shape.

beverages.... good stuff...

yup, those are it. you dont have to coat them or anything unless you get unplated bolts. i just went to lordco, told them what i needed and what i was usin it for, $1.36 (i think), cheap easy upgrade.

Well I got some Champion coppers instead of the NGK platinums - how long do you think they'll last before I should change them again?

Also looked at Lordco, Baker Supply, and Home Depot for stainless steel M6 30mm bolts & locking washers - they had Galvanized (nickel plated) bolts but not stainless - I was finally referred to a Marine parts store that carries them. 50c/bolt and 12c/washer. They are made of 316 Stainless Steel. I'm gonna pick them up tomorrow if anyone else wants them.

stainless is good, but uncoated stainless will react with the aluminum head. they HAVE to be coated/plated. nickel plated is fine.

oddly enough i think my car is firing better with the champion plugs and stock wires, instead of NGK's and Aurora plugs... guess i'll have to try the aurora's again, or get some new ones

hey ryan, what trim you going for? or just a rebuild?

well oil change and spark plugs 5 and 6 installed today, did some other tweaking to other stuff

now to replace the damn foglights..... i yanked the fuse for foglights, then uhh... the foglights went off but so did the gauge cluster and other interior lights. so i put it back in...

ive figured if i start my car, turn on the headlights, then leave them up, turn the car off. then turn the car on later (with the lights still up) the main headlights will come on without the foglights.... i just think it looks gay to drive around with one foglight
