Great little show here! The Bendo fight alone was worth it. Who else thinks that Hardy "gave" him that guillotine with a suicide shot at the very end?
If Hardy doesn't get fired, we can be pretty sure that was the case. Not that I am speculating about corruption between Zuffa and Lytle, but you know... Dana will "appreciate" it
LOL.. Are you serious?
Hardy will not get fired. I'm sure he'll get 1 or 2 more fights at the least...
But to say he gave him that choke is beyond stupid...... He got caught trying to "win" that round., plain and simple..
I'll miss Lytle that's for sure... now that's a FIGHTER
Hardy was already on the verge of being fired. Losing to Lytle almost guaranteed it. But losing him in a way that made for a 'feel good story' sort of put it on hold until his next fight.
Unless I'm wrong and he gets fired tomorrow anyway...

You just never know with dana that's all I'm saying
Hardy definitely focused more on 'putting on a show' than actually 'winning a fight'. Hence his horrible strategy of trying to outbox a stronger boxer, and not throw leg kicks despite his TKD background
See even after 4 losses in a row, including looking completely USELESS in two decisions and geting KTFO and subbed in the last 10 seconds, he is somehow able to stick around...
Sometimes zuffa will keep or fire a guy just based on how they feel after a show or whatever.. kinda cool that way, as it keeps you guessing. So Hardy will stick around for 1 more loss I guess
In Hardy's defence, you have to look at some of the guys he's faced in those losses. They weren't no picnic in the park.

It was more like, he was desperate for the win, so he went for the takedown, and RAN into that guillotine. Why would anyone "give" an opponent a guillotine with 10 seconds left in a fight?

nobody beats GSP and he really shouldn't have been in there with him anyway.
against Condit, that fight coulda gone either way, Condit got off faster tho
AJ wrestle fucked him
Hardy isnt a bad fighter, hes just a victim of the UFC hype train. had he not been pushed to #1 contender against GSP and kept being a mid card fighter, hed still be rollin along ok.
And Dana says it time and time again. He will keep a guy who comes out to fight and loses but is exciting. Hes still a draw, people want to see him stand and bang, why do you think he was the headliner against Lytle?
Dan's an interesting case because he has a unique look, is a college-educated guy who can speak intelligently and is loved by sponsors and potential sponsors. Also women. Hardy's one of only four fighters (Franklin, Anderson and Kongo being the other three) who women universally love. The usual UFC split is 90:10 male:female. With Hardy, it's more like 55:45.
When Hardy fought GSP, execs from one of the biggest companies in the world (bigger than Under Armour, Burger King and Nike combined) were there to scout GSP for a possible sponsorship deal. After the end of the show, it was Hardy they were interested in. While that deal ended up never happening, that had nothing to do with Hardy.
That said, he really needs to take a break and go back to square one because this isn't working.
That's from someone who writes about MMA in Europe (you've heard him on shows too, translating for German corners, so I think he does broadcasting too maybe), so pretty good info
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has reportedly signed a multi-year contract with the Fox Broadcasting Company, taking effect in January 2012.
According to a report from the Sports Business Journal, the promotion has inked a deal with the network for seven or eight years, giving Fox the rights to broadcast as many as four live MMA events per year.
Most of the UFC's weekly programming, which currently airs on Spike and Versus, will reportedly now be broadcast on the Fox-owned FX channel. This includes events such as “Ultimate Fight Night,” as well the UFC's long running reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter.” According to the SBJ's sources, Fox could pay the UFC up to $90 million, and a deal announcement could come as early as this week.
Fox subsidiary Fuel TV will also benefit from some UFC programming. However, the SBJ writes that Fox will not re-brand Fuel TV to give the UFC its own channel.
The UFC was rumored to be in talks to purchase struggling cable network G4 with plans to transform it into an independent UFC network. However, those plans seem to have been scrapped in favor of the aforementioned arrangement with Fox. The promotion's long-standing contract with Spike TV will reportedly expire at the end of 2011.
It's not even close to happening, unfortunately. Remember that Brock had a foot of his colon removed. That takes a long time to recover, and the time itself is variable. Add about 3-4 months to that for training, and there's your best case scenario for a Brock return.
He's out in the woods in Manitoba right now, I'm sure he hasn't thought of MMA in months

18/08/11 - UFC president announces retirement of 'Gladiator'
The worldwide MMA community was rocked today by news that the UFC’s ‘Gladiator Intro’ is to be retired.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the news at a press conference today, shortly after announcing the new deal between the FOX network and the leading mixed martial arts promotion.
The new deal will see UFC fights occupy 32 Friday evenings every year on either the FX channel or the main FOX Sports imprint; this promises huge exposure for the UFC.
As part of that, the presentation is undergoing a revamp and certain aspects are going to be replaced as the production gets updated.
“The gladiator opening is going away,” White said when asked about it, adding that the UFC is going to change “everything - graphics, show openings for pay-per-views and fight nights. We're going to enhance the look and feel.”
The identity of ‘Gladiator Man’, as he is known in the industry, has always been one of the most closely guarded secrets in MMA.
Nonetheless, Fighters Only was able to track him down. He expressed shock when told that the intro sequence was to be retired and asked for his privacy to be respected as he comes to terms with the news.
“I need a minute to myself,” he said, having heard nothing of his obsoletion until contacted by us. After composing himself he added that he would just have to “face the pain” of being consigned to the MMA dustbin.
Gladiator Man is in his tenth year of service for Zuffa. He will presumably now be offered his freedom now that his services are no longer required.
Bye Gladiatorman
