We were making predicitons about Brock vs Overeem, and I personally can't see many scenarios where Overeem would win or even get out of round 1. Here's a prediction from someone who has beat Brock;

Mir favors old foe Lesnar against Overeem - Mixed Martial Arts Blog - ESPN

Quote:
“Honestly, I think Brock will win pretty easily,” Mir told ESPN.com.

“I think we’re going to see the closest thing to a grappler versus striker match you’ll see nowadays. Brock is going to cover up; maybe throw one jab. He’ll rush Overeem to the cage, reach down for a leg and rip him down.”

After that happens, Mir has little faith Overeem is capable of working to his feet. One of the greatest concerns on the Dutch striker, despite the fact he’s held titles in multiple organizations, is his effectiveness fighting from the bottom.

“I don’t think he’s going to get off his back,” Mir said. “I’d be very shocked -- I’d applaud Overeem if he got off his back.”

Also from an MMA journalist:

Quote:
I've asked 17 UFC fighters about this fight. They have it 15-2 in Brock's favor, 16-2 including Mir. The only two who picked Overeem were Guillard and Cro Cop.

Come to think of it, if the fight goes to the ground it's over for Overeem.

If Overeem can keep the fight standing, it's in the bag for him. Nevertheless, I'll still bet on him on Bodog

UFC 137 is probably going to do 300k-350k, my prediction. Even though there is no title fight, Penn usually does good numbers when he has an exciting opponent.
UFC 136 had TWO title fights and it only did 250k. I don't know if a lot people want to spend another $50 month.

With recent UFC events its more like:

"I don't know if a lot people want to spend another $50 every week."

lol true but it will be 3 weeks since the last PPV unlike UFC 135-136 where there was a 2 week spread.

Also it will be Halloween weekend and since most people don't want to party on a Monday, I think they will be going out on Saturday. UFC usually ends at around 8:30pm-9:00pm on the west coast so that's good but on the east coast it will be almost 12:00am.

Firas Zahabi: ‘I’d Want Georges St. Pierre to Move Down to 155 before going up’
Quote:
“Well to be honest with you, I have recommended to Georges, you know…the only reason I don’t recommend it now is because Frankie Edgar is the champion, but I’d want him to move down to 155 if Frankie was not the champion. Obviously we’re part of the Renzo Gracie team and we’d never fight Frankie Edgar, because obviously we’re all Renzo Gracie fighters. But if it wasn’t the case, you know, I’d rather him go down to 155 because Georges is not a very big welterweight. People might think he is, he’s actually not very big. And him making 170 is extremely easy for him.

Honestly, it’s probably one of the easiest weight cuts from all that I coach, and I coach a lot of professional fighters. Georges making 170 is getting a little too easy for him, so I’d recommend to him in the future, who knows what the cards hold, but if we don’t have a team member that’s champion or anything like that, I would recommend him to go down first before going up.”

“Georges’ body type, he’s actually ectomorph, he’s very lean. He doesn’t put on a lot of muscle unless we make do a lot of lifting, and I do make him do a lot of lifting. That’s one of the reasons why I wanted him to start doing Olympic lifting, and just a high volume of weightlifting is what will keep him muscular. Because Georges doesn’t really put on fat and muscle very easily, and I really think he could lose a little bit of muscle. He doesn’t have much fat on him, and a lot of water and a lot of electrolytes. Just doing the weight cut from like 175, he would make it down to 155 quite easily.”

LOL I guess....that talk of him trying to "add" weight/muscle/etc for MW is a bunch of BS

I wish Sonnen would start calling out GSP too and invite him to MW

I guess Firas wants GSP to fight Aldo,Pettis,Miller,Maynard,Siver...instead of guys like Silva,Sonnen,Belfort,Bisping,Okami lol..

GSP already cleared out a good WW division, I don't see why he needs to move up or down. But if any, down makes sense if he's not a 'big welterweight' Think about those MW guys you listed, they are all HUUUUUGE compared to GSP, even freakish GSP of 2010-2011.

So if GSP cleared the division or close to it.. you'd want him to pretty much fight the guys he's beaten twice or whatever? i.e. Koscheck?

I think GSP is scared IMO... why in the hell would they say that GSP is in the process of "gaining mass/weight" so he can compete at 185 then all of a sudden would prefer 155.... OR.. they tried but I guess they reached the max size for him.

I do want to see how he could make 155 though... doesn't he walk around 185-190 right now? lol

No, not really... As a fan I'm not sure what I want. Don't want him to get sat on by Yushin Okami for 5 rounds that's for sure

Can't he atleast just try 185 and take on someone like Bisping for example.. if he loses, go back to 170 or go for 155 if he really wants to.....he's smart though..he wants the "easiest" path to possibly getting 2 titles in different divisions.

Only guys I can think off at 170 for him are Condit,Diaz (if he somehow gets by penn) and maybe Ellenberger.

Time will tell I guess.

I'm calling it right now:

After Silva retires, GSP will finally move up, and will hold the title at WW and MW.

Why would Silva's retirement have anything to do with it?

It's not like he's going to get past Sonnen when they fight in early 2012.

How do you know Okami will sit on GSP for 5 rounds when the fight didn't even happen yet?

GSP should at least try it, like Anderson did, twice.

I'm sure this has been said a few times all over the mma world... GSP is not a "fighter"..he is an athlete

People will say.. "silva handpicked his 205 opponents, bla bla"...then why don't GSP pick his opponent then for a "warm up"...

I'm not a fan of GSP but ya.. i guess i'm not used to seeing a champion leave his division and say "I've conquered 170 with ease... now let's go conquer the 155 division".

I guess it's easier to lose 20lbs of muscle to compete at 155 rather than add just 10 to do MW.. lol

LOL I would say Sonnen would be champ, but I just see him getting into other trouble and the UFC stripping his belt

Am I sounding like shawn79 with these "predictions"?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. GSP is great as a welterweight, and cutting too much weight can have a bad effect on a fighter. There are a few fighters that have found more success by staying at or moving back up near their natural weights. GSP would be very small as a MW. Cutting 40lbs from his natural weight to 155 is somewhat drastic. There are certainly fighters that cut that much weight, but I think GSP belongs in WW.

Maybe the fact GSP has been trying to put size on for a year and not being able to get a level that would put him on par with the real middle weights tells you something. If he can't do it he can't do it. He's already having trouble keeping weight to fight at WW and his cuts are simple. Look at Chael and look at GSP..... Huge fucking difference in size that's a real middleweight vs a real WW.

Berz out.
