Agent: Carlos Condit did 'not step aside' for Nick Diaz's UFC title shot
Quote:
Carlos Condit "didn't step aside" and relinquish his guaranteed title shot with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre so Nick Diaz could cut to the front of the line.
That's according to Condit's agent, Malki Kawa, who released a statement to HDNet's "Inside MMA" program on Monday.
Diaz, who had been scheduled for the title fight with St-Pierre at UFC 137, ultimately was forced to give it up after he no-showed a pair of pre-event press conference. Instead, it was given to Condit, though St-Pierre's knee injury forced him out UFC 137 and put the title fight on hold until early 2012.
After Diaz defeated Penn in the new UFC 137 headliner and incensed the champ with a post-fight speech in which he questioned the legitimacy of St-Pierre's injury claims, White opted to book St-Pierre vs. Diaz instead of St-Pierre vs. Condit.
"Carlos Condit has agreed to step aside and get the next guy," White said after UFC 137. "[St-Pierre] said, and I quote – you're going to think I'm full of [expletive], but this is the truth – I quote, 'He's the most disrespectful human being I've ever met, and I'm going to put the worst beating you've ever seen on him in the UFC.'"
It was enough to convince White that St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) vs. Diaz (26-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) was the right play. But Kawa said it's not the way it all played out with Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC).
"We are obviously disappointed in the UFC’s decision to cancel its commitment with Carlos Condit to give another fighter an opportunity at the welterweight title based on emotional reactions from UFC 137," Kawa told "Inside MMA" in a prepared statement. "Contrary to what has been stated, Carlos did not step aside to allow this to happen and would not just hand over an opportunity for him to achieve his greatest career goal, one that he has earned through his strong performances in the octagon. No option was given to him."
"For the second time in less than two weeks, Carlos has had an opportunity swept out from beneath his feet."
Following UFC 137, MMAjunkie.com asked White if Condit really just stepped aside – or whether he needed some arm-twisting to surrender the spot. Was he really given a choice?
"Of course," White said. "I didn't call him up and say – look, I like Carlos Condit. I respect him. He's getting the next title shot. He said he wants to fight on that card too, so he's going to fight on that card. It was a good conversation."
But what if he loses and costs himself the title shot?
"That'd suck," White said.
WOW.. This is not GOOD for Dana's credibility for the company.... why make it up that Condit AGREED to let GSP vs Diaz fight.... DAMN
So much for "Condit will wait for GSP and fight for the title..."
OH and this is not GOOD for Condit's career either HAHAHA..
Fuck Carlos Condit if he doesn't play by Dana's rules, he can go get humped by Jon Fitch and have his head knocked off by Anthony Johnson before getting canned
In all seriousness, the bottom line is that UFC is a business (sorry to those who think it's a 'pure sport' and the titles mean anything other than being a promotional tool, but this is the truth), and they have to put on the fights that make them the most money. If it is Carlos vs GSP, then so be it. Otherwise, he can wait and fight later. Remember that Carlos only got the title shot in the first place because Diaz was being punished. He was thrust into a great situation, and just had it pulled away.
If Carlos shuts the fuck up and plays by his employer's rules, he will be well taken care of and compensated. If he is going to be a douche and argue about thinking a TITLE SHOT~! is important, then he can go fight in MFC... or something....

I just wanna hear what Dana says about condit and camp running their mouth... that should be good.
In his debut Brock was walking around at about 295-300lbs and cut 30ish lbs to make the 265 limit. Now he is actually 265lbs with no need for a cut. He's not the hulk he once was for sure.
really? CV and JDS drive Bimmer/Landrover respectively? is this video another attempt by DW to make people think these guys get paid well? Comon lets not kid ourselves, unless your name is GSP, Brock, or maybe Silva, you are pretty much living paycheque to paycheque (or in this case fightcheque to fightcheque) especially if you are high rolling like that.
the next step UFC needs to make if they want to replace MLB as a top four professional sport league is establish a fighter's union, but I doubt that will ever happen as DW and the Feritta brothers pocket everything, leaving loose change for the fighters to scrap over...
re jds
The Vancouver Athletic Commission late Thursday released the salary figures for UFC 131, which took place June 11 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Top heavyweight contender Junior dos Santos led all fighters on the card with a $200,000 payday for his main-event unanimous decision win over Shane Carwin,
i remember seeing josh koscheck roll in a ferrari
not to say that most other fighters make that much..but jds makes pretty good pay and thats not including endorsements
Cain and JDS are probably making about 1 mill per year. Maybe less but my estimate.
And Cain and JDS are pretty big names...
They are probably getting as much money if not more per fight of the salary from Sponsors.
If you fight on PPV main card you also get a cut of UFC earnings as well.
big name fighters like GSP or Rampage are easily making a few million+ a year, mainly from sponsors.
The fighters that aren't big names are still getting about $20-40k per fight.... with all the sponsors and all I wouldn't say they are living cheque to cheque, especially if you fight 3 times a year which is the UFC average.
I'll probably PVR this event lol.. i'm not really complaining as it's free.. and i'll be rooting for the Filipino wrecking machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait for the weigh ins though.. Joe Rogan usually says "We have a hell of a card for you folks!!!". I'm pretty sure he knows this card isn't that great so I wonder if he'll still say that LOL
