LV for a watch is nice even though it's from a fashion brand. I think they own zenith and their watches have zenith movement.

I'd rock a LV watch any day

Yeah before I got into watches, I always wanted a Gucci watch. Then I started doing some reading and found out that most clothing brand watches are just rebranded low end quartz watches. I'd go with the Tissot any day.

Yup, LV is an exception. The only thing is, for their prices, you're entering the ballpark of some other pretty prestigious watches. But for this budget, it pretty much just comes down to personal taste.

I'm in the market for a watch that matches my lifestyle. Pretty dead set on the Seiko 5 Military (looks manly enough). Problem is, seems to be quite overpriced in Canada..
Its about 60% cheaper on ebay. Has anyone ordered from ebay?

Moky: Do you mind me asking where you purchased? Online or local?
Would be a great gift for my pops

It is part of the Seiko 5 Sport Series correct?
An ebay search, has lead me to believe it is the Seiko 5 Submariner?

Sigh...just got my Zenith Defy from a full overhaul service from a local watchmaker (watch was not winding properly). Watch is working fine now, but just noticed there are several nicks on the caseback on the grooves where they were trying to open the caseback. Unfortunately, I didn't inspect the back last time I sent it to LVMH for warranty work so I'm not sure who caused the damage

Sucky, but of course waiting the 2-3 month trip back to the service center is also bad. But at least they refinish things. Why didn't you send it to the service center?

I have looked through www.jomashop.com and they don't have the exact Tissot I tried on.

I am not a watch expert, in fact, I know nothing about the jargons and the market. How would you know which one to pick. Sure it looks nice on the pictures, but I find that trying it on is a must. For example, I tried on a Tag Heuer Grand Carrera last week. It looks nice on their website, but the 44mm casing is too big on my stupid girly wrist.

I also tried on the Tissot Couturier I posted at Ann-Lousie Jewellery, they are offering a 20% discount to the $625 MSRP. Any experience? or jomashop is still better factoring in the cross border duties?

TSB shipping at Point Roberts will likely be used if I choose to buy from jomashop.

So after restoring a few watches, my friend came to me with an emergency...damaged a fairly old panerai ( A series), and the AD suggested a new case.

We know that the factory would just put a current series case which would devalue the watch a lot so he let me take a crack at it!

Basically bezel, side of case, lugs were scratched to heck, and there was a sizable dent! Crystal was also scraped! Ended up re-machining a whole side, re-machine part of the bezel, and a lot of polishing with wet sand paper / clay / dremel / diamond paste

Wish i took more pictures "before," but after the watch looks brand new now! I didn't want to unscrew anything so it was just a lot of masking. I'm glad the steel is of high quality to accept all that beating and come out ok. About 6 hours of work but at least I know I can do it now with a collectible lol.

that DOES look good! looks like it just came from the spa or brand new from the ad!
maybe i should do that to get rid of the scratches from daily usage too...

notjustforshow: i don't suppose you know how to make it have a brushed finish too, would you?

Thanks guys...

Really feeling the late night right now...but i wouldn't be able to sleep without trying to fix it lol.

@moky : yep I do! Depends though on what finish you want. For something like watches it would be sand/bead blast then in one direction use appropriate grit sandpaper (proportionate to size of the item)...dry sand paper of course. It's easy to do, but if you make one pass wrong with the sand paper you may have to start over.

Thinking of a brushed case for your pam? :-P

yeah i've been thinking about it since im not too keen on the polished (but it doesn't super bother me). i've also been thinking about having the PO brushed too, just because i've never seen a brushed/blasted PO.

Hmmm I am of the same opinion. The shine on the PO bugged me more than the shine on a pam.

However it would kill the resale!

Yeah im done reselling for awhile, its too stressful. Might end up keeping what I have for a few years, and repairing watches for guys that don't care if I screw up lol.

Man... wish I didn't sell my PO too :-(

you can always get the new PO! tried it on a few weeks ago. such a huge difference in terms of actual fit versus the gen1 PO. i tried the black ceramic 45.5mm! dial has more of a textured finish than the gen1, the bezel is ceramic, albeit grey not black, but the integrated rubber strap + deployant is just WOW compared to the one i have

they also reworked the deployant to be 22mm tapering down to 20mm (new clasp), instead of the old 18mm. price was not bad for the 45.5 on bracelet too

Haha i purposely am not going to look! it may turn to a must-buy and a spiral into short-term debt!

But yes 22-20 taper is awesome, can you somehow fit it to yours?

i MIGHT be able to make the strap fit the case, but the new PO with the 8500 movement has a thicker casing, running maybe 1 or 2mm more than what i have, so from there the strap might be too big (?)

the omega store couldn't let me fit the new strap since they don't have any in stock yet and they don't want to remove on from a watch, which is understandable.

i'd be ending up buying a complete set though if i can make it fit (strap and clasp)
