I recently switched from a 4S to a 5S; in doing so I had to get a new nano-SIM. Fine, I can accept that.

I gave my 4S to my wife. Her old phone uses a regular SIM, so she couldn't just plug in the SIM from her old phone. Rogers made her buy a new micro-SIM because apparently, SIM cards can only be assigned to 1 phone number.

Is this true? I get the feeling I got played.

couldn't you give your old sim to your wife to use? All you have to do is switch the sim online. I did that lots of times. Just log on to your wife account and you can select activate new sim. It will then ask you for some numbers that's on the sim just put that in and now your wife's phone number have been assign to your sim. As for you getting a new sim card, you can simply walk to any apple store tell them you upgrade form your 4s to 5s and need a new sim card. They will give you one for free.

thats rogers for you. but its not like he lied. sim cards can only have one number on it....at any given time that is.

you can actually cut the sim yourself, but if you're not the handy type, its easier to get it cut for cheap.

I thought you can only use that online tool for new sims. Does it work when switching to a used sim?

So what happened if you leave that organization. Will rogers change the plan or it will just go on until you notify them? One thing I hate is that if you switched to a corporate plan they have to close down your res plan and reopen a new biz acc. That means you lost your history and it will start from zero again

to be honest, i don't think they will change it unless you notify them. when i renewed, the answers i gave them are so generic. they didn't ask for specifics. unless they do their own checking with the company, then there is no way for them to tell that you have quit.

Tried a HUP today and the lady on the phone told me I had to go onto their current plans to be able to receive a device at discounted price.

She offered me 2 GB, forgot how many minutes since I don't call much, unlimited msg, canada wide, call display, voicemail, blah blah, at $80.

To match my current grandfather 6gb, it would be $95, compared to the $60 I'm paying right now.

What a joke. She claims that as of august, customers who do a HUP must go on their premium plans.

What available strategy is there to keep my plan and still do a HUP? Cancel?

as shitty as this sounds, if going through the HUP route doesn't work for you, save up and buy a phone out right. yes it is a lot of money up front, but if you do the calculations, you save more money on the long run than going on to a new plan

Exactly.

Paid $600 for a phone outright, here's how I look at it.

Would pay $99-$199 for a phone on a two year contract and have my bill go from $45 taxes in to $85ish taxes in for the same plan.

So $40 - savings/month x 24 months = $960

I ended up paying roughly $400 more for a phone, however I'll save roughly $560 over two years

Similar situation. May 2015 is when my contract expires, and they said they won't grandfather my contact and to be on the same I would be approx. $96/month. Wonder if that means even if I go month to month they won't let me, or just won't let me keep it if I HUP. Which means even buying a phone outright won't stop them from changing my plan.
