Anyone know of any 2nd gen rx7's in the Victoria area I can take a peek at? NA or Turbo, does not matter, I just want to take a close look at one to see if it is right for me. I check out a '89 N/A tonight, he wants $3500 with I believe 160k, so its going to need a rebuild fairly soon, if it hasnt had one already. There is also a bit of rust. I think that is a little steep for an NA that wil probably need a rebuiuld, what do you guys think?

hehe Anyone know of an RX7 owners that want to trade there Rx7 for a gas saver... Like a 1991 Escort GT

I do not know anyone wants to trade their RX-7 but I won't recommend buying that RX-7...because rebuilding an engine costs like $4000 or so.

I heard mazda wants 4500 for a NEW NA 13b.Might be cheap.Plus if its got 160K on it depending on how it was treated it still might go on for another 80,000 kms.NA's were built to last.

wow, sounds just like mine for sale, other then mine is a 1990 and has 168k km on it, but I am not in Vic and no one is coming to look at mine till Mon or teus I think it is.

At 160k km it does not mean it will need rebuild if it has been taken care of properly. They can last well over 200k km (the NA ones) if treated right. Even the Turbo FC's can fairly long if treated right. Good luck with it.

If you can do it yourself it is only like 1kish, if you pay for it to be done it should not cost more then 3k-3500 tops otherwise it is a rip off and not worth it, not that its worth it for 3k either but that is the general area that I have heard of. Or you can buy a core from most places for less then 3500 and swap on all your stuff onto the core and be good to go.

So I bought the Autometer Gauge, 2 5/8's Water Temp. It's deciding to be a bit of a bit to install. Actually I just need the right bushing to convert the threads on the sender to the metric threads on the waterpump housing. If it wasn't V-day I'd be finished by now dammit. Looks pretty good in the air vent, decided to go electrical in the end over mechanical for the difficulty of install. I'm not totally sure what's wrong with the stock one, the gauge in the cluster is fine. I tested it out by removing the wire off the stock sender and grounding it with the key in the "ON" position, shot right up past H like it's supposed to. I'm leaving the stock one hooked up for now, I want to compare the temps on the autometer when the stock one goes nuts.

The location I've chosen for the new sender is superior to the stock location as it will be sensing at the outlet from the engine which should be the hottest point. Should go fairly easy with the right fittings.

Ok, I am going to tell you what I have heard when looking into JSPEC engines.

Yes they are cheap, yes they have low KM on them. They usually end up sitting for a real long time before they actually get to North America. This means that if you swap one in, it tends to blow itself up within weeks of being driven. It is because they sit in the junkyard over in Japan for quite a while, then get purchased by an imported over here, engine gets pulled, shipped within a week or so, takes however long to get over here, then the importer ships it out to a customer who buys it. By the time it is in your car it has been sitting for a loooooooooooooooong time without being run. Not good for an engine. Even if you take precautionary methods to start it like making sure it has oil inside the housings to avoid dry start damage it can still just wreck the engine. The engines are good if you plan on rebuilding them before putting them into your car, but otherwise can tend to be a pain in the ass.

This is just what I have been told and have seen in writeups and stuff. And think about it....if there were that many perfectly good engines with low KM that run real strong and are gonna last for a long time, wouldn't everyone be buying them up for there NA's and doing a full conversion? I dunno, sorta makes sense to me. I found all this out when looking into swapping a JSPEC into my car, decided not to risk it.

ya i can see that being a problem (especially with a rotary). i just thought it was a dirt cheap engine. i dont know if they do sit for that long cuz shipping from japan doesnt take all that long. but it is very easy to blow a rotary, so i wouldnt doubt it

Its not the shipping that makes it sit for so long necissarily. If they have such low KM on them then that means they have been in the Junkyard for a long time, like years. If it is a late 80's engine, and only has 30-50k km on it, that means it whent into the junkyard in about 91-93 area. Unless it was rebuilt. Which means it has sat in a Junkyard for how many years, or at very least months.

There is nothing wrong with the engines at all if you want to rebuild it, they make great rebuilds cause the housings generally have no damage so all you need is all new seals and everythign else is usualy in great shape. So if you need parts or an engine to rebuild then they are great cause so cheap.
