Han Ju HotPot in Richmond (across from K-fever, beside Bubbleworld) 8/10

Got off work one night and was really hungry. It filled me up good. Got the seafood kimchi hotpot, with a bowl of rice. ~$6ish

Service was kinda slow, had to ask them twice to refill my tea cup..oh wells, they were busy, so I'll let it slide

Deer Garden Signatures Soup Noodle Place (On top of Twinkle 1) 8.5/10
This place was packed. Their fish soup was good. Got the watercress and almond fish soup with rice noodles, and beef brisket/fish balls.

Service was alright for an asian place. Hits the spot right on a cold rainy night when i'm craving noodles, and looking for a good alternative to Taiwanese beef noodles and/or Ramen.

Not so sure why people rave about this place.

Yeah, I wasn't super impressed when I went.

I always sample from around the table and see what other people got.
Out of everything, only the berkshire pork was good, and the heirloom tomato salad was above average. Everything else was meh.

I'd rather spend my money at Les Faux Borgeoise or Bistrot Bistro.

Or spend the night at home, make myself some Steak au Poivre and nap on the couch.

Mega fail.
No doubt mang. Before going I thought it was French but part way through the meal I quickly realized that they had no identity at all and wasn't even sure what the fuck they were. But yes mega fail on their part and never again will I step foot in there.

+1 for Les Faux Borgeoise. May seem like it's in a pretty shady area but the food is relatively cheap and tastes good. Yummy...Steak Frits!

I got the Hainanese Chicken w/ Rice. Came with a small bowl of soup.

Really enjoyed it. 10/10.

Rodney's Oyster House - 1228 Hamilton Street (8.5/10)
- 3pm-6pm - "low tide" menu (happy hour) - cheaper food!

Super fresh seafood! Prices are decent during regular hours, but if you go between 3pm-6pm they have certain items on discount (ex.$1.50/oyster compared to $2.75-3.50.)

Had 2 doz. shucked oysters (comes with an array of sauces to put on or you can take it straight up), pan fried fanny bay oysters, a couple fresh raw scallops, garlic prawns, steam clams (one order of clams is quite plentiful), clam chowder, and a scallop salad. Food is quality.

Service and atmosphere is very chill. Service may come off as "unprofessional" to some, but you have to understand that this isn't a fine dining seafood restaurant.

Will visit again, also heard great things about their fish and chips (only served on Friday and Saturday afternoons prior to 3pm).

^I find it interesting that you, as a connoisseur of food, can passionately hate some forms of food that are rather "normalized" in western culture.

ex, mussels, parsley (or was it cilantro?)....and I think celery too, iirc?

Why do you find it interesting? Everyone has their likes and dislikes. For instance, the owner of Yuji's Japanese Tapas hates shiitake mushrooms with a passion, one of the staple Japanese foods...I've never heard of a Japanese person that hates shiitake mushrooms before.

I will not eat oysters, mussels, cilantro, natto (fermented soy beans), pho, haggis, vegemite, okra, geoduck, sea urchin, alcoholic beverages, carbonated beverages and some others I can't remember atm.

^I just think it's rather interesting the way you sculpt your displeasure for those foods. Makes it sound like they're the worst things, evAr.

"Sculpt" my displeasure? Haha, there's nothing wrong with saying you don't like to eat something. Any one of them would ruin a meal for me.

Oh, yes....peanut butter & bananas too. Bananas should be universally banned.

You just reminded me of an episode of Anthony Bourdain in Austrailia, where he eats a ribeye with foisgras and a piece of marrow (in bone) and toast. I could just picture you cringing for some reason but I was drooling at the time.

People like different things.
