I've never been to Taboo.
I'm not defending them.

But please don't use their poor execution to hate on Korean fusion food.

A lot of food styles have a blind spot in their approach.
Korean style brings sweet seasoning to meats.
Korean style brings an acid element which is sorely lacking in a lot of foods.
Korean style doesn't have dairy.
Korean food lacks cilantro.
That's why Korean/Mexican fusion is such a perfect marriage.
ex. Bulgogi tacos. Though I personally like using short rib (who doesn't?)

Consider the phenomenon that is Gua bao w/ kimchi

There is an entire subset of Korean food that is Korean-Chinese.
Korean Chinese cuisine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Try this place, then come back and tell me that Korean fusion is terrible.

minami

I will not go through in big detail on the food itself but I will save you time by telling what i like on the menu

rated 1-3, 1 being the worst that i regret ordering, 3 is a must again

tuna tataki 1, bland

aburi sashimi -1 , fucking horrible dish

salmon oshi sushi 3, only 6 pieces but it is the most popular dish in the whole restaurant, took a very long time to come out because there is a long queue for it. takes a while to prep.

Red wave roll 3, crab tastes very good

crunchy scallop roll 1, not worth it

brome lake duck duo 1, not worth it, tastes alright, nothing special for $40

bone marrow and AAA ribeye 3, for $10 more than the duck , 1000x better. very well seasoned.

was really expecting a lot more for the price point the restaurant has given

7/10, would rate the food lower but staff really took care of us at the bar.

Vancouver japanese food is overrated tbh after you try out the states....

prawn tempura has 4 pieces of large prawns. one of the best batters ive seen

lobster rolls were meh

oyster rockafeller was enough to fill my oyster needs, shouldnt of gotten a buck a shuck when getting another oyster dish. Was very delighted and satisfied.

9/10

Big Texx Burger

We had the single bacon cheese burger and the single texx mix which is single burger patty with a crispy chicken patty as well.

Both burgers and fries for about $25ish.

Really big and messy. Not the best burger i've had, still prefer home made but none the less, average price and decent.

They are rolled (in blocks) in bulk and stuff them in a plastic bin before dinner time (around 5ish). When it gets order they will take one out from the bin, apply sauce, sear and cut

source: I'm there regularly before dinner time and I've seen this multiple times

Was just there yesterday. Love their Sweet and Spicy sauce.

Too bad they don't sell it on its own.

really? I can honestly say the bun is mofo hard to make. my girl and i went and the bun was amazing, the tuna was a huge and thick sliced. The bow chicka bow bow was also seasoned and super well balanced.

we went when it was super slow maybe that's why it was better assembled and seasoned?

I dunno, just my opinion the bun was really crappy. In my mind i had taiwanese "gua bao" in my head.
i did find the chicka bow bow better then the pork belly one.

Chongqing Szechuan

6.5/10. They used pretty cheap rice (wasn't fluffy and soft) and some of their dishes were salty (I think it was the seafood chow mein). The hot and sour soup was too acidic/vinegary. Their General Tso chicken was quite nice though, but I wish it was a little bit more crunchy. Ginger beef was flavorful but lacked texture. String beans were nice.

So far, Garlic and Chili is the best Szechuan restaurant I've been to. Their hot and sour is decent but slightly thick. If it's a weekday, get a table before or after the 12PM lunch rush. It's packed and their phone rings off the hook.

Garlic and chilli? Its alright for a hole in the wall place..i doubt there isn't any other sichuan restaurant that can't surpass them. Last time I went there throughout my entire meal the woman in the front was yelling to the kitchen to her husband and was talking about getting a divorce and arguing and only stopping to either respond to guests paying or serving their food

Hy's Steakhouse. 10/10

Took my fiancée the day I proposed to her.
She said it was the best steak she's ever had. Quite pricey, so maybe another milestone celebration we will go back.

went to redbud restaurant. granville ave. Richmond.

I ordered my favourite baked pork chop on rice. family and friends had spaghetti, and the one choice meats with rice.

8/10. i thought it was very good. recommend my pork chop rice, but not the spaghetti, it felt dry.

Really? I thought Miura was nothing special. Tried the Bulgogi and GFC and they weren't outstanding or anything. I feel their waffle-wiches are just a novelty.
