RE: Jesse from Blackwater
 

Hey guys,

I realize Jesse from Blackwater Tattoos is being talked about in another thread, but I didn't want to hijack that thread so I made a new one :)

I have a friend who is looking for a good artist to get two tats done, one for him (black widow) and one for her (dove). I saw how happy people were with Jesse's work, so I suggested he look into Blackwater, but we've been unable to find any website for them. Does anyone have any pictures or samples I could show him of Jesse's work?

Also, his gf's tattoo was designed by me, will Jesse accept it? Or will he want to use his own design? anyone know?

I know a couple people that would rather do their own work than stencil someone else's. Something about it being easier if it's from their own head rather than someone else's drawing.

He'll probably redraw it and make it more suitable for a tattoo, and it'll end up looking better. But if you insist, I'm sure he'd do an exact stencil of yours if you really want.

But I think the point of going to a talented artist should be to let him do the design. Use yours as a base, and go from there.

No no, I don't want him to use the drawing the way it is. It's for my friend's girlfriend (her first tattoo I believe) so I was wondering if he was the snotty type of artist who will only do his own work and won't even look at the picture they bring in with them.

Maybe I just know some really shady artists O_o lol

It would suck for an artist to not feel confident enough to not be able to interpret someone else's art as a tattoo.

Yea, it does lol. That was my main reason for giving it up. I'm not confident enough in my own skill as an artist to put it on someone's skin for their entire lifetime >_< Oh well, I'll stick to graphic design hahaha.

cause they want their work to be the best. and they dont want their name along side a shitty tattoo.

If a tattoo artist agree's to tattoo some shitty design on you, then thats not the artist you'd want to go to.

Same reason why many artists dont tattoo over or make changes to previous tatts done by another artist - cause its someone elses "masterpeice".

I would suggest you take a trip down to Blackwater yourself and take a look at his work in his albums. Trish is also a very good artist that does beautiful 'softer' work. She does nice butterflies, birds and nature stuff while Jesse does the more 'manly' stuff if you will.

They are located at 820 Renfrew right beside the Italian sporting goods shop.

I got all my tattoos done by Jesse...Full back piece of tiger + dragon, Phoenix on my right arm, chinese characters on my ribs and superman on my chest...

The picture of the Phoenix are a little bit down on my post.
He specializes in asian art yes. I've seen alot of people get it from him.
His rate is $140/hour which is cheaper compared to other artist that charges $150-$180.
My Phoenix he actually drew it. I told him how I wanted it to go on my arm and he drew one up and put it on. Looked good so I got it. He told me that this is the first time he's doing this style of Phoenix. The previous style didn't look as aggresive.

Np bud. I'm glad this is what he wants. My phoenix took him 8 hours (no jokes) and cost me a little over $1,000
My back took him 15 hours and cost around $2000 (tipped him good of course)

For kois I would suggest Jeremy at Funhouse.
Not sure if he works there anymore but my friend got his full back done by him and by far the best koi tattoo i've ever seen.

whoa your tattoos are really nice! only 15 hrs for ur whole back? does he work fast or sth? im working on a 3/4 sleeve to my chest and im at 22hours and the outline on my chest is not even started yet.

Yes, Jesse is super fast and very good with intricate detail. I noticed M_Nguyen's tattoos are very nicely detailed with BLACK ink (not that green shit) and the shading is trademark Jesse.

Most people can't believe the quality of the detail and shading of my Samurai. Not many artists around Vancouver can do this kind of work as far as I'm concerned. He is very skilled and at $140 an hour he's very inexpensive.

Thats great! I gave him a healthy tip too. This is something people tend to forget.

I believe Jesse has gotten someone to work on a website for Blackwater recently so it may be up soon

Lol, I want to get another one, but I'm not sure where I would put it or what I would get. Need to think some more =o!

Btw, I would advise against going to Evil By Needle. They don't seem too bright there...
