It should depend on how long you think they will stay married or if it's like their fifth wedding or something........ j/k.

At the weddings I've been to, the bride's side pays for everything and the gifts and money goes to the people who are actually getting married. It's delicate when it comes to who pays for the ceremonies and whatnot. Some people spend a lot of money on weddings and it's all about not looking like a cheap ass. Thank god I only have one girl and two boys. Actually, none of them are going to get married at the rate they're going, LOL. No grandkids....... yeah!!!!! Retirement is looking better all the time.

Edit: probably not relevant at all, but the one thing people remember about the wedding is the food. People long forget how beautiful the bride was or how smoothly the event went. It's all about the food and the drinks. I've been married for almost 25 years now and back then it was appliances, earthware, and cutlery from the Caucasians and money (a fair amount) from the Asian guests.

Oh, there is one thing that overrides the good food rule and that is the groom getting drunk and acting like an ass at the reception/dance. That seems to haunt people the most. So, if you're the best man at the wedding, stay sober yourself and keep the groom from ruining the wedding for the bride and the parents/relatives.

===============

favourite line I give the wife when appropriate: Honey, I love you more than life itself, because I gave it up when I married you.

My fiance invited an old classmate only b/c we invited other people from her class and she thought it'd be rude not to invite her. I decided to add "+guest" on the invitation even though my fiance said not to. Her classmate replies that she is coming with a guest, and buys us a $25 gift (our cost for wedding is probably about $80/head). Needless to say, my fiance chewed me out on that one

edit: The classmate makes $80k/year

As nice as it may seem to buy an actual gift, I'll admit its much better to receive a monetary gift. They would probably appreciate that more than receiving anything else. Unless you're buying them a car.

But if you're adamant about getting a gift........I have a dishware set that I received and will never use. =P

check if they have a registry for the wedding.

if not, go to the bay, tell them u need a decent gift for a wedding. they can help.

DO NOT GET THE TOASTER! unless its a gag gift...

my gag gift was a box of cialis. .

As SG! said, check with the Bay, or Home Sense. They have an online registry so it is quite simple.

Money is always better than a gift considering a typical wedding dinner is going to cost almost $100 a person, and being your boss I would assume they will not cheap out and go for something in the $150-300 per person range.

For my wedding, wife's co-worker brought her sister unannounced and they only gave $40 between the two.

Asian weddings suck. Always at some bad Chinese Restaurant and you have to fork over at least $100.

White weddings are better. Food also normally not very good, but you don't have to fork over as much $$ and some, you can actually buy a box gift.

Go to the Bay and Home Sense and open a registry acct. They will give you a gun to tag the items you want. BAsically you get to walk around the whole store and zap what you may or may not want.

Remember Bart Simpson going crazy with his fake wedding registry?

If you ask for cheap items, some people WILL buy you those cheap items. $10 bath towels etc.....

Go for a walk and see what you would like to have. Don't expect someone will buy you that $1000 cappacino machine, but you never know.

I usually figur eif i'm going to a wedding, i better damn well at least know one of the two parties getting married. And should know what they need if they're moving in together etc.Check registries, and see what they want, as well.If not, $100/head usually covers it :P

And remember, what comes around goes around. You cheap out, they will remember it and if they attend your wedding, they might cheap out on your wedding.

How close are you two? If it was my brother, "sex for dummies".
