FYI: Air Canada In-Cabin Entertainment

FYI folks,

As of Wednesday, Air Canada no longer provides free earphones for their entertainment system. However, they're for sale for $3.00 so bring your own!

wowzers, is that for domestic only? if thats internationals also, its another fall in air canada.
FYI: Air New Zealand was awesome compared to A/C. Their headphones were better than the budget crap A/C hands out, their Economy had noticeably more legroom, and their meals were really good - even Haagen Daz was given out! Plus, the stewardesses had hot kiwi accents as opposed to canadian housewives.

I have never flown aircanada, but are the headsets like other airlines where you need the two plugs (left sound and right sound) or is it like the normal ones where you only need the one plug to put in your headphones for both ears.

Depending on the plane, you'll need the double prong whereas some are only single. I don't know off hand.

Are there adapters available? I don't know where I'd buy two pronged headphones.

I've never look for myself but I do know for a fact that Bose sells a set of noise-cancelling headphones that come with it and are specific to airplanes. Skinnypupp has a set I believe.

Perhaps the dollar store may have it?

Edit: Found this on eBay.

Yeah I have a pair from Sony, and they came with an adapter. I lost mine though, so I can't use it on flights that have those whacky connectors.

On my last 3 flights, I have seen 3 different types of connectors though. The 2-prong kind, the big 4.5mm kind (think those big microphone or headphone plugs) and one that actually uses standard 3.5mm plugs.

In most cases, IFE sucks though, so I just watch movies and shows I download on my laptop. With 2 batteries built-in, I get about 8 hours on it which is enough for most flights.

If you are using a standard single 3.5mm headphone jack on a 2-prong, put it in half way and you'll get audio.

I saw the DVD rental places in the airport sell the 2 prong adapters. (at least the one in SFO I was at yesterday had them).

Like someone above mentioned, you can probably find them in the dollar stores. If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to plug your headphones into one of the double prong jacks and get mono audio.

I just flew on AC's new Boeing 777 from Vancouver to HK in business. They give you Sennheiser noise cancelling headphones. Sound quality was excellent.

They never have anything good. When I flew to San Jose, the only good thing they had on was an episode of Frasier =/ So I guess the next time I go down there, I'll just remember my mp3 player.

Is it just me, or did those earphones hurt anyone else after a while?

Hey nipples,

I still have a set if you want to borrow it.

Edit: You're in Korea.

I just booked a flight with AC to Japan. Ill see how it goes. Does AC use empower ports or regular power ports for electronics?

the newer refurbished interior AC planes have Canadian power plugs, even in economy
the older crappy ones will use the narrow car adaptor type (but its skinnier than a car adaptor).

Not always; business in AC always has power plug, but in the past year i've been on 2 economy flights using old style interior where there was no power plug.
