get them done all 4 at a time, you will only have to pay for one time anesthesia than paying them 4 times to put you down.

Tylenol is only hiding the pain. You should be alternating tylenol and an anti inflamitory. I found Aleve worked really well for me but in general it works better for me than Advil.

The swelling is what's causing the pain and unless you do something about THAT you're just prolonging your pain.

Take a Tylenol, then two hours later an anti inflammatory, and then two hours later Tylenol, then two hours later anti inflammatory and so on (unless you have liver trouble, then skip the Tylenol completely). Don't ever let it wear off, or you'll feel more pain and take more pain killers in the end. After a day you should feel well enough to cut out the pain killer but keep up the anti inflammatory for a few more days.

Alternating hot and cold on your jaw can help too.

got all 4 taken out at the begining of the month.
2 simple, 2 complicated (growing sideways towards my teeth =[ )
they only froze the areas and went to work.
powdered teeth and not being able to feel my mouth was definately no fun when you add the drilling sounds and cracking, and feeling the the might of the surgeon lol.

One word of advice... don't go to Chinese dentist.. :P
especially one on main st..
or better yet.. ask for specialist if your dentist would try to do it himself
I had mine taken out from this idiot Chinese dentist on main
Took him 3 hours to take one off and he got frustrated he started rushing everything and ended up cutting my lips/do horrible stitches job that chunk of flesh fell off along with horrible stitch job. I was this close to sue this motherfucker and he actually had nerve to call me again ask me to book for scaling..
fucking asshole..

was this a long time ago? I would seriously consider making a formal complaint 'cause chances are he's doing it to other people too.

this is the regulatory body that license the dentists in our province http://www.cdsbc.org/complaints

This happened about 3~4 yrs ago.. I got referred by my ex..
someone Pm'ed me asking the name of the dentist..
I'm 90% positive that it's the one on 3000's beside pizza hut but I don't want to name the place because of that 10% uncertainty. I can call my ex and ask her to confirm but I'd rather not...
BTW, a friend of mine just got her taken out..went to see specialist.. took her less than 30 min to take 2 out, 2 days to recover w/o any problem.
If I knew about regulatory body back then, I would've definitely made complaint but after 3~4 yrs, I don't know if I should bother anymore..

other than the pain killers, did you guys take all of the medication prescribed? i've been given 2 anti-inflammatory medications, one of which is a steroid according to the information sheet, and penicillin. the nurse was sorta unhelpful as they were fairly busy and i wasn't given a chance to ask any questions. even when i fractured my orbital bone and they operated on it, i wasn't put on any medication so it all just seems a little excessive for me. i'm planning on holding off on the anti-inflammatory stuff since my swelling isn't that bad and an ice pack seems to be sufficiently doing the job, but a quick google search has provided mixed responses about the antibiotics.

Reviving this old thread to ask a question since I need to get up to 5 wisdom teeth removed

Basically Dr Chau in Richmond quoted me 432$ per tooth to get my bottom two removed. I have all the panoramic x-rays done and he came up with that price.

I sent an email to a few other oral surgeons in Richmond and Dr Kwong from The Urban Dentist quoted me 360$ for the same procedure.

Both of these prices still seem quite high... Would someone please be able to recommend me to a skilled and qualified oral surgeon that has fair prices? Thank you very much in advance!!

Yes, he told me that he charges a higher price because of his credentials, however if the procedure is just a routine wisdom teeth removal without a high chance of any complications, I feel that it is just too much per tooth.

My aunt got some work done by him and she said he was great though.

hmmmm i think taking out wisdom tooths do require s good set of skills or else your ordinary dentist could have done it for you...

i also asked around and ppl seem to saying its around $400/tooth so the price that Dr Chau charges seems fair

thats just me tho, anyone wana chime in?

Does your insurance cover any of the cost? If. So, I'd prolly go with dr chau, if his crefentials are infact accurate. Its not so much the procedure that sucks, but the pain afterwards. Also, if they don't do a good job, it could lead to other complications like dry socket (I been told its the worst feeling in the world) and probably other infections.

300-400 is a fair rate for oral surgeons
the residents at VGH charges $98 for consult and approx 300 for the extraction as a "reduced rate"...so really for someone who has more experience in surgery it is well worth it.

and there's no such thing as having 5 wisdom teeth

and yes most insurance will cover extractions

$300 seems pretty good considering my dentist is raping my coverage as much as she can it seems..

1 filling plus replace 2 silver with white was $780

I can't speak for richmond, but I had mine done by doctor boyd in north van. I know its quite the trek, but she's awesome. Takes total care of you, and has been voted best dentist in north van before.

After I moved to richmond, I still made the drive to see her, until I decided to find someone closer for general stuff.

Dr. Chau said it was a "5th tooth" near one of the top right wisdom teeth. He said it can be removed at a discount price though =/

Got two taken out by my dentist I've had since I was a kid, very good guy and it was done in about 15 minutes. A ton of numbing and a couple yanks, all teeth came out in one piece without any cutting. I got prescribed a whole container of T3s but I never used it, just the necessary meds like the antibiotics and such. Surprisingly, throughout my ordeal I never felt any pain at all, I just had to watch what I eat and sometimes how I ate them. Fully healed in less than a week
