its not that hard to live in victoria making minimum wage, you just have to adjust your lifestyle to fit (like living with a few roomates, not going out 4 nights a week, etc)...
The key words in my statement was "DECENT life". Living like you're in a commune, being restricted to go anywhere because you can't afford it, is no decent life, it's more like prison.

It's still better than being one skid row. That's one thing I dislike about union mentality, it's the whole big wage or no wage thing. Sometimes you gotta adjust.

Kind of like what Saab is doing I guess. Sticking their necks out as a small company, rather than risk being chopped up and gutted by GM. Good move on their part.

if you cant afford to live in Victoria, there are alternatives. again, instead of complaining, do something about your life.

I can more than afford to live in Victoria thanks.

As for GM, the government needs to realize that no one wants to buy from a company that is not doing well. GM will never get their heads above water.

Yeah, they'd have to pull their heads out of their asses first and that doesn't seem to be happening.

GM CEO to resign:
General Motors Chief Executive Rick Wagoner will resign as part of the federal government's plan to bail out the struggling automaker, White House and GM sources told CNN Sunday.

Wagoner's departure comes the day before President Obama is expected to announce the latest details of the government's auto task force restructuring plan for GM and Chrysler LLC.

A GM spokesman declined to comment, but a statement from the company said, "We are anticipating an announcement soon from the administration regarding the restructuring of the U.S. auto industry."

ya, they aren't meeting their requirements for the bailouts, so they will probably be forced into chapter 11.

not sad to see GM in this situation, but I am sad to see the number of people who will lose their jobs because of the poor management.

^

I thought they made enough cutbacks that they didn't need the next phase of the bailout?

Wow that's huge! I see that as a major step to the government taking over GM and Chrysler.

I'd pick a communist/socialist country over a capitalist police state. At least the right shit gets done and done in time to actually make a difference.

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors is preparing to announce that the Pontiac car brand, once marketed as GM's "Excitement division," will be killed off, according to a source familiar with the decision."

Neither capitalism nor socialism seem to work on their own in a modern democratic society. An extreme to either end I feel would only end in failure, and I don't think that's something we will see.
