| What winter tire are you using on your car this season?
As the title says, what winter tire are you using? How effective are they? if ur not using a winter tire, then state what all season you have on, and how uneffective it is =)
For my GS, im running on some discontinued Bridestone Blizzaks. They are ok, so long a dont drive like an idiot. For my highlander, im using Nokian WR's. they are actually winteres rated for all seasons. yeah, i didnt say that backwards, thats exactly what they said in the brochure. 7 years warranty, and so far on our 4th year, the tread is still relatively good. on their first year, they performed absolutely amazing, its slowly gradually gotten worse, but still the highlander hauls ass.
Some popular winter brands that i know of are:
-Bridgestone Blizzaks
- Dunlop WS 3Ds
- Hankook Icebears
- Yokohama W Drives
- Michelin X-Ice
- Pirelli Winters
There are probably a lot more, but those are the ones listed in my car size =P

I've got Hankook I-Pikes on, unfortunately I have yet to try them on some snow. I'll try them later on in the day when I have some errands to run.

Running Blizzaks on my Van and they are awesome. Stopping on ice is amazing and traction is unreal. I actually can't believe how well they work. Its my first time using a full winter tire and I am now a believer.
On my winter beater I have "all seasons" and they are ok for moving forward but I need to use the E-brake when turning corners 
Berz out.

Got Blizzak WS-50's - the old discontinued one - on the Odyssey. 3rd season on them, I think they're getting pretty worn because last winter was quite dry. Still got quite a lot of grip on slight hills and flat ground, but if faced with an icy hill with quite an up-slope they get kinda balky and you have to finesse it up the hill.
Time to change, next winter, I think. I want to go back to Michelin winter tires, they work the best, but I might give the I*Pikes a try if they have one in my Ody's size.

All Seasons! w00! Granted, I'm not venturing out in this weather.
Okay, I lied. I bought a set of steelies and Hankook iPike RC01's from Canadian Tire. Cheap, but better than all seasons on the subie.

running Nokian WRG2s - all season winter tires.
Can't comment on how it performs in snow yet (just got em this yr).
They perform excellent in wet so far.

I am running Dunlop WinterSport M3, had these for a few years now and they are amazing.
Dad's running Bridgestone Blizzark Revo 1. GF's running the cheapo CT Goodyear Norton and surprisingly they are not bad.

Apparently only Bridgestone makes tires in the size that my Ody uses: 235/65-16...
Gah @ pricey premium snow tires that wear too fast.
EDIT: Ooh, found Hakka's in the "alternate" size recommended by Tire Rack.

I picked up some Kumho KW17 Studless for my car this year, 195/55R15 and last night was the first time I tested them (driving from Harrison Hot Springs back to Surrey)
On the highway, there was only a few cms of snow but they performed quite well while I was changing lanes. There was a lot more snow in the city of Surrey around the quieter neighbourhoods; that's where the fun began.
Did some quick test, such as stopping, stop and go, turning. Surprisingly, with ABS they stopped relatively well on compacted snow. Stop and go, there was a lot of tire spin even with LSD (this was when I tried to launch alittle quicker than usual but if you're relatively light with the throttle it's great), turning was amazing. Mind you these tires were used when I bought them so they're already a few years old with around 80% tread life.
I'd give these Kumho KW17 Studless winter tires 7.5/10!
I work in sales of parts and if you're honestly going to spend the "big bucks", and it was between the Bridgestone Blizzaks WS60 or the Michelin X-Ice XI2 (Original X-Ice discontinued!). I'd recommend the Blizzaks, Michelin has gone downwards lately in it's quality and I can't really say that they're what they used to be. Still pretty good but not "their usual". Too bad most if not all winter tires are gone now. **Also, check the date on which the tires was manufactured, if they are over 6 years old and stated "brand new", they're no better than a brand new all season tire.**

I have the X-ice on the camary and its awesome! If I lose traction all I have to do is just lessen the pressure on the gas, not lift off completely and I never had a problem with skidding. The only time the tires ever lost traction was coming up the Knight street hill between 41 and 37. Had a choice of going up one block or going down 4...... stupidly choose to go up....

Very very slightly less grip than my old Blizzak WS-50's, but they make up for it 10x over with their extremely progressive breakaway. They're so predictable that you can actually sense the start of the slippage seconds in advance and compensate, whereas with other tires you have to be a little more on your toes.
I had a lot of fun blowing past packs of stuck SUVs and cars on steep slippery hills yesterday hahaha.

I took my Mazda 6 up to Big White yesterday.. Running on Michelin X-ice2.. These things are awesome!!! I'm coming back to Vancouver on Thursday, they should be sufficient on the Coquihalla..

Michelin Artic Alpine (made in France). These bad boys are like 5 seasons old now. Still good tread. Drove up a hill last year with 1ft snow no problem. I gotta commute from Langley/Vancouver to Abbotsford, and the artic alpine has gotten me around no problem.
My dad got a set of the x-ice xi2 on his accord this year, going to see how they work out when we get a good dumping of snow on the roads. I have high expectations on the x-ice, since my artic alpines did so well.

I ran those last winter, they are unreal,
my only gripe is their ice traction isn't up to par, but everything else is absolutely unreal, it's like driving on summer pavement all over again

For the CRV: Bridgestone Blizzack DMZ-3's 
Probably the best winter tire I have ever used. Especially for the price, $102USD in 225 65 17's. Good ice traction and deep snow traction from driving to and from Whistler last year.
I did not believe the hype of Blizzacks til I tried a set. However, people do say they don't last that long if you drive them on dry/warm conditions. After 1 season, I still have a lot of tread, but the surface looks a wee bit worn. Compared to the two season old Hankook W300's I had, those still look brand new.
For the speed3: General Tire Arctic Altimax 
I figured any winter tire is better than no winter tire. Bought these for $88 USD in 205/50/17's from TireRack in Sept. Said to be made in Germany, a direct copy of the Gislaved Nord Frost 3 which was a great winter tire. Even though they're Q-rated, they're pretty decent in the dry, handling of the speed hasn't diminished.
After looking at the Hankook 409 iPikes, tread looks similar to my General Tires, probaby copied off the Gislaved NF3's as well. I thought about Hankooks, but didn't really like the W300 Icebears that I had on my civic.
