| FS: Oppo DV-981HD HDMI Upscaling DVD Player
If you want the best quality when upscaling DVD's, it's better to use a player that is made for that task, rather than using something like a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player to attempt the task. The Oppo 981 uses a high quality Faroudja DCDi upscaler, and is known as the best DVD player for the price.
Of course, if you are interested in something like this, I likely don't need to tell you much about it.
I'm selling mine, because I no longer watch DVDs at all, I put them in storage.
For more details click here
-upscales to 1080p, also features 720p and 1080i
-uses HDMI for HD resolutions - no component out, you must use this with an HDTV
-also has optical and coaxial for digital audio
-supports DivX and Xvid (including subtitle files)
-region free
-supports SACD, DVD Audio, HDCD
-and a ton more features
Includes plug adapter for Canadian plugs (supports all voltages) and HDMI cable
Sells for $229 USD ($286 CAD). I am looking for $100 CAD, + shipping from Hong Kong.
Paypal accepted, but if you do direct bank deposit I will give a 5% discount

Bump... I can't believe there's no interest in this.. I know more and more people buy HDTV's.. but are they using the same $30 DVD players they had before?

dude, for 200 bucks? that's a lot of money, i think people prefer to pay 200 to buy a brand new blu ray player in these days...
if you lower to 60-80, maybe there are people interested
your dvd player's only advantage is upconverting ALL REGION dvds
in futureshop, region 1 dvd upconverter costs between 60-80 bucks only (brand new)
for yours used one, and an unknown brand, though it's for all region, it still doesn't worth 200 bucks.
so buddy, don't be surprised that no one is offering you anything

Oppo makes great DVD players. I have an older model and I paid close to $200 couple yrs back. The output quality is much superior to majority of players out there.
Google it and you can find many AV enthusiasts recommending it.
The price may seem a bit steep but if you want quality, this is it. Similar to speakers, decent ones vs super high end ones. The price for a high end set can be exponential over the the decet ones but SQ is going to going to be marginally better.

so buddy, don't be surprised that no one is offering you anything | Those "upscaling" DVD players from the Japanese/Chinese manufacturers are garbage. If you care about quality, you'll pay for quality.
It may be an unknown brand, but that's if you don't know anything about good AV equipment. If you know the least bit, you'll know that Oppo is great. And for what you get, $200 can actually be considered very cheap (the only players that come close are in the $500-800 range)
I agree about your point that compared to a Blu-Ray player, $200 seems steep. I may have to lower the price a bit. But to $60-80, dream on lowballer.

BTW I will consider offers from people who aren't ignorant morons who don't know anything about A/V, and can't write proper English.

is there any advantage of this over a blu ray player? I read it converts DVDs to 1080P...is that even possible? I thought true 1080P needs a blu ray player

I thought true 1080P needs a blu ray player | The advantage of this over a Blu-Ray player is that, when playing DVD's, the quality will be better. Playing DVD's on a Blu-Ray player in most cases, the quality won't be any better than a $50 DVD player. But if you want the absolute most out of your DVD, making use of 1080p, then you need a really good player like this one.
If you don't have or watch DVD's anymore, then it's probably not worth it. That's why I'm selling mine, all my DVD's are in Canada so I never use it, and I need the money right now |

Price lowered to $100! Plus shipping from Hong Kong (will probably be about $20 if you choose Airmail. Surface would be $13 or so)
