Semi-OFFICAL : NEXT GEN HONDA S2000 is DEAD!

Well, I posted a thread about HONDA killing the NEXT GEN NSX before.

AND now, it seems like they have done that with the S2000 sucessor as well

and the same to their upcoming V8 .... along with their V10....

P.S. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to the word SEMI on the title. There might still be hope

Quote:
It was already reported that Honda has killed the next-gen Acura NSX, but it looks like the economic downturn is causing Honda to cut even more programs.

Autocar is now reporting that in addition to the death of the NSX, Honda has also killed the next-gen S2000. 2009 is reportedly going to be the last model year for the S2000 with no replacement in the works. Honda was also planning on producing a droptop version of the CR-Z that is going to be released next year, but those plans have been shelved as well.

The Honda brand is the only one getting cuts. Acura has long needed a V8 engine and RWD vehicles to compete with the top luxury brands, but it looks like those two plans are dead as well. Honda was planning a large RWD sedan to compete with the BMW 7 Series for 2015, but that model has been cut. A V8 engine was also in the works for Acura's flagship models but that program is being killed because it is viewed as the wrong engine at the wrong time. Some Honda engineers felt the engine was too big, heavy and unnecessary.
I am leaving Honda now . I respect their cars from the 1990s - 2005

Ditched Honda ever since I sold my Rsx. They have been receding since 2005. I highly respect their plans to go green and build economical, fuel-efficient and technological vehicles, but since they do not have my entire market in mind (vehicles with any semblance of sporty performance or excitement) I also will continue to shop elsewhere.

Hopefully Acura dies because it's a huge steaming pile of garbage, while Honda succeeds in their new niche as they deserve to.

90's recession in Japan killed off all their sportscars... they didn't get out of the recession until around 2002 and brought some of their sports cars back around that time. Japan's current recession killed their sports cars before they even came out...

Yeah the recession was in late '90s.

Anyway, Honda pulled out of F1... why won't they pull the plug on the new S2k? Nothing comes as a surprise.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Sorry, I meant killed in North America because that's where we are. What's it matter what they built over there when you can't buy one here? One by one, Japan stopped bringing them over here til there was nothing. As far as it concerns me, the 90's Japanese sports cars died in the mid 90's.

Recession started in the early 90's right around the time when the japanese sports cars started disappearing on our shores, a few lingered around like the Supra but they weren't selling, the prices were jacked up because it cost Japan way too much to import them here. You were able to buy a "new" Supra as late as 2000 in some places because the dealerships just couldn't get rid of them.

Well the RX7 may have been built in the 90's but the first year and planned production happened late 80's early 90's for the 1993 model. They didn't revive the car at all during economic slowdown and when they did, they changed it drastically building the RX8.

The Skyline in Japan is built as a coupe and sedan and has been around as a basic model for decades. The GTR is a a higher performance version of the same car. Limited changed in the engine for a number of years since he early 90's as well.

I don't know much about the MR2 but again, the last design was built for 1993 pre-design was late 80's early 90's. No new designs were created during financial trouble and we've yet to see another version unless you count the MRS which from what I hear is all show and no go.

EVO and STI are just hopped up versions of daily drivers that are popular sellers so that really doesn't matter.

NSX was designed in the mid/late 80's and went through minimal changes over it's lifespan. Even when other companies were coming out with newer versions of their old cars (350z etc) the NSX was still the same as it was 2 decades earlier.

Supra again designed in early 90's late 80's for 1993. We've yet to see a new one since.

they've been saying they'll discontinue the S2000 since 2004.

I'll believe it when I see it.
