The Civic Diesel they have running in Europe gets heaps better mileage than the insight.

This article: http://jalopnik.com/5128524/2010-hon...rst-drivegives an interesting perspective on the hybrid owners....although most of the stuff we know already...

Is it not possible to make an Hybrid diesel? Why won't they make that instead?

I don't even know why they bother with hybrids when Euro market diesel cars get upwards of 60 MPG.

diesel is more expensive to fill(used to be cheaper long time ago), gas is more popular, you can't get it from petro canada, at least around my area.

VW toyed around with the idea of a hybrid diesel in the Golf/Rabbit a while ago.

People bother with hybrids vs. diesel because right now diesel is a lot more expensive than gas (as it has been traditionally), and diesel kinda has a bad rap as dirty fuel on these here shores.

what about the propane proposition? Less power but definitely less emissions and less consumption too?

Fueling a propane tank is no different from fueling a hydrogen tank...which is getting all the hype thanks to honda.

Otherwise I don't know why diesel isn't a hit here....like Bluetec, Mercedes's CDI range and VW.... why aren't they taking off I wonder....Diesel definitely makes sense for long distance travellers - typical of US/Canada drivers.

I think part of the problem is the high price of admission.

Diesel cars/trucks are generally more expensive than their gas counterparts. With diesel being as expensive as it is, the price difference isn't really worth it.

propane is NOT less harmful to the environment than gas or diesel.
they have tested it out in HK.

there's never cheap alternative fuel on earth, unless your car is solar powered or wind powered

True propane is making more emissions but it's supposed to use less fuel to the mile.

But yeah it's understandable because even in Japan where they made their own LPG Crown Comfort don't use Propane all the time.

I think it's only in the crowded city area where propane is more welcome than gasoline over there.
