What's clubbing like in Kelowna?

Hey everyone,

My significant other is coming down to visit this weekend and wanted to go clubbing. She's into the top 40 / hip hop & r&b music which is what I hear Gotchas or Level specializes in.

The few people I've asked about this have said to avoid those places but I wanted to get some more opinions on them.

I hear they're full of 17-19 year olds (we're in our early-to-mid 20s) and that the people are rowdy. While I don't doubt the first part, is it a rowdy place? Will I feel incredibly out of place being a 25 year old there?

Any opinions/suggestions for a Saturday? I think we'd end up at Flashbacks if nothing else worked out as I hear the crowd there is a bit older.

Thanks in advance.

top40/hip hop ONLY leaves you Gotchas.
the crowd is younger but 25 in certainly not old. as for rowdy, well, yea it can be if you want it to be. but in 6 years of clubbing at gotchas ive only been in 2 fights and both of them i had it coming to me. and im a pretty loud mouth hero when i drink. gotchas will almost always be busy on a saturday night. it also has the side club Oasis attached to it thats an electronic music club.

Level is more of an electronic music club. i actually like it better but for some reason it doesnt usually get very busy. the crowd is better than gotchas because the people that go there usually go there to have fun whereas gotchas alot of people go there to be seen.

Flashbacks is definitely not a hip hop club. and while people insist its an older crowd, it really isnt. its been taken over by the former gotchas crowd who now thinks they are too good for gotchas. it can be a good time but it gets extremely overcrowded. expect to hear Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me at least 3 times durring the night.

Thanks for that. Sounds like it's not as bad as people have been saying.

its the same as people saying clubbing in vancouver will get you shot.

It will if your a loud mouth hero when you drink.. I would stay out of Vancouver if I were you. hahah jk. Whats the best club for house music in Ktown?

i think level has specific DJs nights but i dont go out often enough to know. join the Flipside group on Facebook, they host lots of DJ nights at Level. Oasis also has some but its really a clusterfuck of random stuff.

Everyone you talk to about Level says the same thing. They like it the best out of the 3, but it is RARELY ever busy. Thursdays are byfar Level's busiest night.

down_hill_dog 01-18-2009 10:24 PM

Hoodies, whatever is all good.
