Who Plays Badminton Where and Why?

I play badminton for fun and as a stress reliever. I'm really good at it. I play in richmond pro every Tuesday night from 9pm-11pm.....

How about you?

oldcracker 01-24-2009 05:44 PM

InvisibleSoul 01-24-2009 06:28 PM

Uh... okay... do you play with a David L?

Studmuffin08 01-25-2009 07:31 AM

Hmm...... David L does he play every Tuesday night from 9-11pm? Which court he is?

Yes I'm good

InvisibleSoul 01-25-2009 11:38 AM

I dunno... but I think he's supposedly one of the best in BC... played for McGill before... think he won the Open Mens Doubles in 2007...

errr... Not even.

I'm friends with people that are really good in the badminton field, and I can say for a fact, they regard Eric Yen, the one who was partners with David L. for the tournament you posted, was one of the best in BC... David L played with him for the tournament and won was because no one else was playing... Otherwise, David L. alone would not make it.

shenmecar 01-25-2009 11:27 PM

i play at richmond pro on saturdays. im not that great but its still good exercise =)

Studmuffin08 01-25-2009 11:35 PM

Yesh it's really nice exercise and as well as tension reliever and nice game for socialization....

DragonChi 01-25-2009 11:36 PM

i'm pretty bad it, but i'm working to get better.
i used to be bad at pool too, now i win tourneys.. albeit small ones...

TRDood 01-26-2009 10:51 PM

im okay...

i go to anywhere my friends go for sat night drop ins

inexpenisve sport/hobbie i'd say. i see it as a recreational hobbie more than a sport. something about badminton that i find...... not as appealing as other sports.

Djiban 01-27-2009 12:35 AM

David L is getting old, he gets tired faster now

I play badminton, although not in years. I would actually like to play again. Where can I go for some drop in play at, lets say, a low-medium intermediate level?

Also, is there any drop in on weekends during the day, so that I can still go out at night :) ?

Is there anything in the Surrey area? How much do these places usually charge?

I have a net setup in my backyard during summer, but it's just not the same as playing against some good competition in a gym.

distanc3 02-17-2009 09:30 AM

bumping an old ass thread.. anyone on the board play regularly still?

I just started playing and am still pretty new at it.. which courts do you play at and why? I play at Clear 1 and i find some of the courts have pretty crappy lighting..

Strzelec 05-07-2010 12:08 PM

I still play once in a while at a surrey rec center.

Some gyms are absolutely horrid, especially if youre given a high shot, look up and get totally blinded. Missed a hell of a lot of easy kills because of that...

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 05-08-2010 11:23 PM

at C1 there are certain places where the birdie is at.. and it'd be like a blind spot.. look up and go 'where the hell is it??' then the birdie falls on the floor..

does the rec centre have the indoor court mats or is it on like a gymnasium type waxed floor?

XtC-604 05-09-2010 12:28 AM

clear one/clear two and RARELY yumos, PM me if you want to play :D

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 05-09-2010 12:49 AM

you can also PM me if you want to play :D i play with a pretty regular group of ppl every sunday and sometimes thursdays too.

ps: i'm kinda n00b at it though :P

sleazyho 05-09-2010 02:08 AM

Isnt badminton just tennis for weaklings who cant handle the weight of tennis balls?

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 05-09-2010 08:01 AM

that is a really general statement..which I don't agree with. badminton requires you to have strength in different areas of your body incomparison to tennis.

feel free to come out and play to determine for yourself though, whether your statement is true.

distanc3 05-13-2010 08:19 AM

anyone droppin this saturday night? i'm intermediate at best.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 05-13-2010 08:55 PM

nope.. but feel free to come play on sunday at C1 (PM for details)
