Temp permit without aircare.

So I took my car off the road this winter for some new parts. The car is now complete and I want to put a day permit on it to take the girlfriend out. However the cars aircare ran out in late november.

My dad is trying to tell me that I can only put a permit on it to take it in for aircare, and that they wont give me one for pleasure use.

I find this hard to believe, but he really think hes "right"...

He's incorrect. You can purchase temporary permits without needing to go to Aircare.

Really?

In Victoria I got $20/day for basic.

In Vancouver I got $27/day for basic.

But best to ask your Autoplan agent.

i think your dad may be right in that the true purpose of the permit IS to get to aircare

but i guess what you actually use it for is up to you....so you're both kind of right

I asked for my car a couple weeks ago. I was told it's $34 as well. Pretty damn expensive. Can't wait till they get rid of the stupid Aircare program.

Day Permits aka Trip Permits are not specifically for AirCare. Never have been, If you buy a car from someone and want to drive it home, have a Hot Rod you only drive once a month. Its just what it is a Day Permit. I use to get them for my V8 Fiero and wifes V8 Fiero so we could take them to the club meetings once a month. If you need it more than once or twice a month, might as well put full insurance on it. Unless you are like someone I knew, that it was CHEAPER to run Permits constantly than to get ICBC Auto insurance. His ICBC insurance was going to be $1200 per month, so he just went in and bought the longest trip permits he could, I think it was 2 weeks at a shot. When it ran out, he just went and bought another one. There's no limit on how many you can buy. He did it like that for an entire summer.

In rare cases, if you take too many permits (due to too expensive, or avoid vehicle inspections), ICBC will not allow that car and individual to buy a permit. There is always this one customer, who would come in 2 or 3 times a week to purchase 1 or or 2 day permts. After about 5 months of that, our office received a letter from ICBC not to issue him permits for that car.

Now he comes in again, 2 or 3 times, and he buys a permit for another vehicle, and he is still doing over and over.
