Class action lawsuit against Honda Canada

Just saw this on the news. First time I heard about it.
Basically, Honda and Acura cars built from 2000-2006 and 2007 Fit's have odometers that are showing higher mileage than should be. Some odometers were out by 4%.

in one instance, a woman compared her odometer reading to that of a GPS.

Honda will contest that the GPS is inaccurate. Finger-pointing won't end, class-action suit = fail.

This was after she heard about something happening in the US for odometer inaccuracy.

Anyways, on the news, it said Honda Canada already mentioned they were going to settle. They just haven't finalized exactly what the settlement would be.

Yes and both accounts according to the news.
They said the settlement should be reached around April and then owners have 6 months or something to be a part of the settlement or something.

Lame.

Why not go after Honda/Acura for something big like all those transmissions that keep failing.

Not sure, they never said exactly which part was wrong. But don't be surprised. I used my GPS to log my car and my friend's mini. My S2000 is bang on, the mini was showing 3-4 km/h slower than actual speed.

People care because some people had to pay extra money on lease returns because they went over their allowed mileage.
Some other people had to pay for repair work because their warrenty expired because the odometers had rolled past the allowed mileage.

I think it's really normal to be off by a little bit.

I mean, even tire wear can throw the speedometer off. If the speedometer is bang on when you get brand new tires, as the tire wears and you lose some circumference, the speedometer will be off...

That could very well be included if the transmission failed just over the mileage stated in the warranty. In that case, the arguement would be that had the odometer been correct, that the mileage would have fallen within the warranty and the customer would not have had to pay.

so Every 1km you travel, the odo thinks you go for 1040m?

Who cares?

Changing to a smaller wheels would have affected that..lol

BTW, IT boosts up the FUEL ECONOMY by 4% !!! ROFL

My car's speedometer is fast by 2-3km/hr. It'll read 60 when I'm going 57-58. Honestly, doesn't bug me. I know how fast I'm going.

If your lease states you can only drive 30,000km, you're being screwed out of 1400km. Most leases require you to pay extra for any mileage over the limit. Imagine paying for it only to find out that it was Honda's mistake. The same goes for your warranty. 50,000km warranty with a 4% mileage mistake means that even though your odometer reads 51,000km, the 4% mistake means that in actuality you're still under that cap. Yes, it may not seem like much when you look at the small picture, but broaden your horizons and you'll see where the difference matters.

If your aftermarket tires and wheels are not proportionate to stock size, your speed and mileage will be out of sync. I wonder how many of these people had aftermarket wheels...

And Honda claims the odometers are off by 4%. What if they were lying and your odometer was off by 5 or 6%?

But then again, maybe some people don't care since they go -1 size on their wire wheels or +4 on their 20 inch wheels.
