Coraline

Saw it yesterday. It's pretty good.
It's based on a children's horror fairytale book.

Would you recommend it? Whats it similar to? James and the giant peach? Nightmare before Christmas, Brides corpse?

iceburner 02-08-2009 11:59 AM

Yup, I totally recommend it.
The closest movie is similar to is Nightmare before Christmas, but Coraline is kind of trippy in a scary sort of way.

Watch it and you'll know what I mean.

I wouldn't mind watching it twice.

For those who have any interest in seeing it, make sure you see it this weekend in 3D as there is rumours its being replaced with the Jonas Brothers next week.

It was a great 3D experience.

I was excited to see this movie, but at times, this movie put me to sleep.

The character wasn't too appealing and it wasn't worth the 3D experience as not too many objects came flying out at you.

where to see in 3d b4 the jonai fags

Hondaracer 08-22-2009 03:45 PM

i highly recomend anyone with a bluray player to buy the Coraline bluray

the 3D version sucks with the glasses they give you, but the normal 2D bluray edition is mind-blowing, it's one of if not the best bluray i've ever seen

it has 5/5 on both sound and video on hidefdigest.com and it really does live up to that rating, its a very good movie too

Awesome. Would you suggest what film you think is the best blue ray to play? I haven't convinced my father just yet about the quality of blue ray from the dvd's we've watched so I want to show him.

Hondaracer 08-24-2009 06:40 PM

^ hook up a dvd player and play some old shit DVD that you know is horrible quality, some DVD's look like grainy VHS tapes on HDTV's

then if you have a big enough TV and a bluray player i would suggest Coraline for sure, the difference between an old DVD and a 5/5 rating bluray like Coraline, even the most un-tech savy person will be amazed

if you dont want to show off a cartoon for the difference u can try movies like Iron man, Pan's Labryinthe etc.

just go on hidefdigest.com and u can see which movies they rate very highly

if your dad's into James bond buy "Dr.No" with sean connery, supposidely it's transfer to bluray is very very nice as well

nabs 08-25-2009 10:10 PM

i loved this movie in the theatres, i don't think the dvd can duplicate the awesome 3d experience in the theatres.

freeze2010gtr 08-26-2009 06:53 AM

now im gonna have to go buy the blueray.

All I could think about was how awesome it would be to have a kid to watch this with, or being able to watch it for the first time as a kid.

Hmm, based on that comment, I'm gonna remember to watch Coraline when my kid is old enough to sit through a movie...

SkinnyPupp 08-26-2009 06:03 PM

I think kids 10-13 would love this movie. I know I would have!

Hondaracer 08-26-2009 06:43 PM

Uh, given that he's only 16 months old right now, maybe I'll wait 10+ years first then... :)

But who knows what movies will be like in 10 years?

true that, my baby girl is coming this November, but I am gonna NOT show her until she turns brat age, just to teach her a lesson without atcually beating her up.
