We practiced passing drills with eggs when I was a kid.
I wonder what it would be like to practice passing drills with a super bouncing ball. That would require very soft hands.

I remember watching an interview with Luc Robitaille and he said he would practice for hours bounce a tennis ball against a wall with his hockey stick. That helped him build his hand eye co-ordination and work on soft hands to receive passes.

Can anyone tell me if its common for glove palms to lose grip over time?
Gloves are bauer vapor xx, bought them on closeout when vapor xxx were coming out back then. Still in very good shape, no tears or holes, just seems to me the palms lost grip?

Depending on what palm you prefer, you can get them repalmed if you prefer them tacky.

Digital is the tackiest I've tried. Best feeling palm too. Lasts about 5 skates though lol.

You can get it done locally at Scoffs, but I've never used them. I can vouch for Nash's Sports out in Peterborough though. Top quality stuff.

Question for some of you that owned newer Graf skates particularly goalie skates in general. How is the sizing compare to shoe size? Is it still 1.5 size smaller than us shoe sizing?

I thought of repalming...but I think it may be time to retire this pair to crappy roller games and time to get a new pair for ice

Yeah new gloves are always awesome. But I figured out that I love Bauer 4-Rolls so much that I just send my 3 pairs out to get repalmed when they need it. Added mesh gussets too. OMG

My 4 rolls won't die. They are on their 4th year now. Usually the palms last no more than 2 years with my other gloves

Now if only they would bring a store to Vancouver, that'd be great. Can't complain about increased competition between HX, Cyclone, Source for Sports, etc.

I'm sure it'll come.
BC has a big enough market to sustain a PHL
Canadian Tire now has the low end covered w/ their own stores
Mid end covered with Sport Chek
And High End covered w/ HX and PHL
I can see the "Hockey Experts" name getting phased out and just using Pro Hockey Life in the high end hockey things.
Much like how Forzani's high end golf shops used to be called "Golf's experts" until they acquired Nevada Bob's Golf

I've noticed a bit of loss thinning in the padding compared to a new pair I have waiting to go, but still useable for a couple more seasons at this pace. They don't even stink since I'm pretty religious with airing out and drying immediately

almost cheaper to replace gloves nowadays
unless you have a really high end glove

you can get S19 glove on sale for as low as $70....and some other higher end gloves are all under $100

But if you have a pair of gloves that you really like, then I suppose its worth it

It's all personal preference. Some guys don't care if there are no palms in their gloves and will use those until they die. Some guys (a lot of pros included) can't use anything but a brand-new palm, so they replace them often.

As skiipi said, if you have cheap gloves, or don't have a particular fetish for a glove, then you're better off just buying gloves on closeout. 99% of people in beer leagues will do this. There aren't too many places to do it locally. I think Scoff's is the only place locally that repalms (not sure if the guy at Great Pacific Forum is still there)

However, if you have a glove that you love (for me, these are Bauer 4-Rolls- I have 3 pairs), repalming is worth looking at for a few reasons:
  • You don't have to break in gloves ever again
  • You have access to other palm materials, such as digital, mustang, kangaroo, goat, etc. Nash is the standard you see on higher-end gloves nowadays. If you can score them somehow, MSH2 from Eagle is a cult-classic.
  • If there was something you didn't like about the glove, you can get them altered for spare change. An example is putting in mesh gussets to improve breathability/cooling. That costs $5 per glove. Another thing you can do is shortening the cuff, or decreasing the volume of the glove for a slightly tighter fit

It's a lot of trouble, but for me at least it's worth it.

yea, they are pretty durable.. i am good with airing out, but it takes ONE time that you don't and you are ruined lol... Mind you, I played a season of roller hockey in my pro rolls which pretty much put an end to them.. they got all loose and sloppy. but the palms were still perfect.

Digital palm + mesh gussets + shipping was just under 120. If you go Nash + no gussets, it's about 100.

So like I said, it's only if you really love your gloves

I wish I took a picture of the result, but if you search up "Nash Sports or Peaches Pro Repair" at the MSH forums, you'll see just how quality their work is.

You need to make friends with a Sport Chek employee

The only reason I have 3 pairs of 4 rolls is because my sister works there lol

I almost went APX pros to change it up, but they felt so restrictive

New palms feel like when you put on a new pair of socks

I do get my equipment at a d/c price. My eagles are 200+ retail. I forget how much I got them for, but it was drastically cheaper. I'm on of those who likes my equipment old and broken in, so I would probably get my gloves repalmed.
