You're going to have nut jobs left and right no matter what they believe in or what they do. Religion helps some people carry on with their life, they need something to believe in so just let them be. We'd kill each other over other things even if it weren't for religion.

regardless, your statement was obviously not conspicuous enough to be depicted as sarcasm as there were several others who quoted it as well

oh religion, how pathetic and outdated you are.
plus I always have my backup plan, if this god and jesus you claim exist are such nice guys, they should forgive me for being a bit sceptical about their existance. and I dont have to read those silly books or go to church and have some guy tell me how cozy Ill be sucking off Satan in hell.

Pope Paul VI: "... masturbation is an intrinsically and seriously disordered act...the deliberate use of the sexual faculty outside normal conjugal relations essentially contradicts the finality of the faculty. For it lacks the sexual relationship called for by the moral order, namely the relationship which realizes 'the full sense of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love.' All deliberate exercise of sexuality must be reserved to this regular relationship."
The church has historically viewed sexuality as having been designed only for procreation. In recent decades, the unitive role that sexual behavior plays in strengthening the marriage bond has been acknowledged. Still, sexual acts that cannot lead to conception continue to be condemned as being against natural law. Also, all sexual acts are a serious sin unless performed by one man and one woman who are married to each other, in which there is a possibility of conception. Masturbation meets these criteria. Some of the pope's comments in Persona Humana apply to masturbation:
"...masturbation constitutes a grave moral disorder..."
"...masturbation is an intrinsically and seriously disordered act...the deliberate use of the sexual faculty outside normal conjugal relations essentially contradicts the finality of the faculty. For it lacks the sexual relationship called for by the moral order, namely the relationship which realizes 'the full sense of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love.' All deliberate exercise of sexuality must be reserved to this regular relationship."
"Even if it cannot be proved that Scripture condemns this sin by name, the tradition of the Church has rightly understood it to be condemned in the New Testament when the latter speaks of 'impurity,' 'unchasteness' and other vices contrary to chastity and continence."
"The frequency of the phenomenon in question is certainly to be linked with man's innate weakness following original sin; but it is also to be linked with the loss of a sense of God, with the corruption of morals engendered by the commercialization of vice, with the unrestrained licentiousness of so many public entertainments and publications, as well as with the neglect of modesty, which is the guardian of chastity." Being a "grave moral disorder" and "an intrinsically and gravely disordered action" the Church teaches that even a single act of masturbation can theoretically send a person to Hell, if two additional factors are present:
The person must commit the act with full knowledge of the sin and of its seriousness.
"It must be committed with deliberate and complete consent." In short, jerk off, and you're going to hell. |

Jason, your comments remind me of right wing christian zealots I've encountered. You have the same style and approach just different conclusions.

Perhaps, but my views are for the advancement of humanity(or the total destruction of it)
Religion just keeps us in the dark ages, which we still haven't really left behind us fully.

why are you such a sensationalist? shit like this rarely has anything to do with religion. it has to do with mental illness.
it's not like you walk into a church or mosque and 30 minutes later you're ready to decap your family. it's because homeboy is fucked in the head. instead of religious nutbar kills family, you'd have a headline of "local soccer coach kills family" etc.
like that dude that murder-suicided his whole family in california a few months ago because he hit the poor house. it's just people with fucked up brains. but if you were some anti-capitalist hippy you'd be all MAN DECAPITATES SON BECAUSE OF MATERIAL OBSESSION FROM DIRTY WESTERN IDEALS!!?!?!!!!eleventyoneeejuan.

Yes. Completely yes. And yes again.
I know there are quite a few of you who are anti-religion and a few, like myself, who are religiously neutral, but I support the idea of religion.
There are many people out there who don't have the direction in life they want and use religion to be that "guiding light". People who do horrible things to themselves and others and use religion as a ladder to pull themselves from the figurative "abyss"
It may be a crutch. It may be silly to some. I support it.
For every story like this fuck-ass (I'd love to hear the entire interview, tbh) who feels that this is God's will there are thousands of others who have let religion have a positive impact on their life.
Although I think that its wrong that AA, Narcanon, and other 12-step programs require you to use religion to "save yourself" I think its great that they are able to help people get their life on track, even if they have to trade one addiction (their problem) for another (a higher power helping them along)
Don't bash religion here. This is one time that its not the problem. Had this man been a Muslim or a Scientologist you would be hearing a similar story about what the voices in his head were telling him, just from a different deity.
