The secrets behind the most exclusive supercar in the world are set to be laid bare! These are the first official shots of Aston’s One-77 on the move, and Auto Express has learned that the first chassis made for the £1.2 million machine will be stripped of its bodywork for the Geneva show – exposing the cutting-edge components beneath.
The firm’s aims for this car were clear – to make it the most technically advanced and desirable automotive object on the planet. To achieve this, Aston claims it wasn’t just the hand-rolled aluminium panels and sumptuous interior that had to look good. Even the parts hidden under the skin needed to use the finest materials and achieve a sculptural beauty – hence the technical exposé.
Each example will use a double-wishbone suspension layout taken directly from race car design. Ceramic brakes
provide the stopping power, while the dampers will be fully adjustable. Each owner will also work alongside Aston engineers to ensure the car’s set-up is exactly to their taste.
At the heart of this beast lies a bored-out version of the V12 found in the DB9, DBS and new V12 Vantage. Weighing in at 7.3 litres, the naturally aspirated unit will produce in excess of 700bhp. But incredibly, it’s around 25 per cent lighter than the less potent 6.0-litre from which it’s derived.
Power is fed to the back wheels via the firm’s latest six-speed automated manual gearbox – controlled by column-mounted paddles – and performance should be sensational. Expect 0-62mph in around 3.5 seconds and a top speed of more than 200mph.
If you have the means to afford a One-77, you’d better be quick. As the name suggests, only 77 examples will be built, making this car a collector’s item before the production line has even turned a cog.
