Recession-Proof Jobs

This could be a discussion in employment but financially.

Which Jobs would be the best bet?

Tenured-Professor is in my view the safest/steadiest well paying job. imho.

Agree...WTF made you think trades are recession proof? Do you even know how many construction workers have been laid off.

I can't help but laugh when I read your post. Like others have said, do you realize how many construction workers have been laid off? There's slim to none residential projects starting up in Vancouver at the moment. Also, who's got disposable income for home renovations during an economic crisis like this?

I suggest that you stick with your autobody job.

Health care is the one field that isn't affected by recession. CTV news covered the story 2 weeks back.

...whoever posted construction, your totally clueless buddy.

yea most public sector jobs are recession-proof. that's the trade off i mean usually you get higher pay in private but the risk of being laid off is also significantly higher.

well i think ever since we computerized and digitized almost everything we do in our lives, technology will remain to be the main driving force for economic growth in the next 50 or 100 years

I wouldn't say it is fully recession proof but it is much better than any other fields. Our company just laid off someone from Accounting.

I agree. IT guys (particularly in support) are expendable, they don't make money for a company, they only CONSUME.

Yeah, I agree.

I know a few CoV workers that have been laid off.

Quite a few have been laid off in this sector, but I think if you work for Shaw or Rogers, you should be doing OK vs. Telus/Bell.
