I go by this rule: Europe = bad. Japan = good. American = in the middle (unless youre talking buick or any car with an engine from the old 3800 line or a 4 sp auto, then they're bulletproof).
Reliability-wise.

This does not impact style or feel, where obviously the Euros dominate.

If your going to buy a jag, dont buy a new one, they are always at the top of the list for the most depreciating cars. Take for example my s-type, they are worth like 17 grand now...... This was a car that retailed for about 60. Out of the top 10 depreciating cars 3 of them were jaguars, if i remember correctly it was the s-type, x-type, and xj

lol i thought this car was about good and bad cars... reliability is never a defining characteristic of any car, unless it's ridiculously bad and breaks down every couple of months (or feet), but there should be an acceptable amount of minor problems.

reliability to me means : car will have no problem for certain amount of year ( no hidden cost, besides the regular maintenance). For example, had an X5, after 3 years, the trunk opens by itself whenever i flick the headlight switch on. Another 6month later, the power lock mechanism is broken. Then, in its almost 5th year of ownership, the airbag warning sign came on the dash, BMW said the airbag module is broken.

I said " fuck you and your fucking problematic car" for 60,000$ I would expect you (BMW) to build me a car that would last 5yrs without problem and oh btw, hire an electrical engineer so that the headlight switch and trunk release wires are not mixed up"

My first car, a honda accord, besides timing belt, water pump, spark plug, nothing ever went wrong. There is just one time the daytime driving light module was broken, but hey, its a 1998.

I think I got a lemon from BMW. This thread is about how often a car company sells a lemon. From the consumer report I guess BMW seem to make more lemon as a luxury brand

Yeah I don't understand why this happens. To an untrained eye, they look like they should be up there with high end Benz'. Any big reason why they depreciate so badly? Maintenance costs too high?

supply and demand. People who have the money don't buy used. people don't have the money is willing to settle with something less flashy.
