MKIV Jetta 1.8T questions.

I did a few searches, and got some info, but sometimes it's nice to get some opinions grouped together in one place.
Yes I checked out the local forums, but I found some of them kinda hard to find specifics.

I'm thinking of picking up an MKIV Jetta 1.8T.
What kind of maintenance will I be looking at as much around are starting to reach the 100K+ km range?
When going to look, what kind of things should I look out for specific to these cars?
Any specific modifications other than the obvious power supporters (intake, exhaust) that are recommended? Like 'chipping' it...what exactly does that do to create more power?
To work on it myself, are there any specific tools/things I should need or look out for different than any other cars ie: like my Mazda

I know there are some super cool dubberz on here that I talked to at the RS meet, so I hope you can give me a hand to join your ranks :P

timing belt and water pump to be replaced at the 5years/100k mark

suction jet pumps tend to fail on those cars. it's about $700 to replace it. with the associated tubing.
