Weekend car time.. but which..

In a nutshell, I'm debating between a new-ish Lotus Elise vs new R8 vs used Gallardo.

I've been in love with the Lotus Elise for a long time, and as of now, my plan is to do up the Elise with Weissach, and possibly trade it in for a used Gallardo in a couple years or so.

HOWEVER, one day I was out meeting with my agent, and he showed up in an R8. We went for a ride afterwards, and I fell in love. Again.

Price wise, the Elise is the cheapest. 60 grand go-cart. I love it.
The used Gallardo comes in second, but not costing much less than a new R8.
The R8 is by far the most comfortable, with the Elise being in last.
But the driving feeling in the Elise is like no other. No amount of comfort can compare to that.

I don't care much for ripping it in the city from red light to red light, so horsepower isn't exactly the point for buying an exotic in my eyes.

With reason, which would you choose?

out of the three you listed, i would personally take the used gallardo.

I find that when i sit in the lotus, the interior feels really cheap and every bump in the road starts to really bother me after a good drive through the city...It is a definately a fun car to take out on a sunny day up to whistler, but nothing i would want to keep for more than a few weeks.

I dont have much to say about the R8 as i have never taken one for a test drive or even sat in one yet.

The gallardo is probably the best bang for the buck. It rides well, interior is fairly comfortable for a exotic and aside from that, it gets the attention of an exotic. It also can be used as a DD if need be.

Gallardo because.....

R8 is engineered to be civilized and daily driven - you have a car for that already
Elise is not so wicked given the roads are mostly straightaways here. There's no doubt that a Gallardo is faster than a Elise given any stretch of straight.

And then the mass appeal of the Lamborghini > Elise.

a used Gallardo is the best bang for you buck in regards to a second exotic car...the Elise would be nice as a 3rd car....imo just not exotic enough when you compare to the Lambo or R8....the R8 is essentially a Lambo chassis with a less powerful motor and more user friendly body. A used Gallardo is in the same class as the new R8 V10

Is this a joke? You list an 08 Civic and 06 350Z in your profile, that'd be a huge step up to a R8 or Gallardo, the Elise is more realistic at 60K.

OP price range listed from $200000 -> $ 150000 -> $60000

If you are considering new R8 or used Gallardo, no point to go for an Elise.

I will get a Maserati GranTurismo or Aston Martin DBS

um, well, a used gallardo is about 160k~ which is on par with a new base R8...i think the only reason why the elise is in there is for its proformance aspect.

If I made it big right now I'd be buying more investments, not cars.

There's a huge price difference in the cars he's looking at, unless he's bringing an 04 Gallardo up from the US.

^ sounds admirable......who cares? you can always plan for the future but you live in today....having a hot car in your 20's is not the same as having a hot car in your 40s....life is about balance...cars & hot women are the worst investments.....doesn't mean you have to listen to the rational part of your brain......

how come OP didn't consider porsche?
If I am in the market for 100K car, I would look into porsche as I heard they are the most reliable exotic?

Porsches are awesome reliable DD cars, but I wouldn't classify them as an exotic

I say stick with the 08 Civic. If you need to come to an online message board to ask for an opinion such as this, you're probably not bright enough to keep that new found wealth.

Oh I know, I bought a hot car (within reason compared to my salary then) when I was 23yo.

Good for the OP if he can afford these cars, I want an Elise yet cannot bring myself to wasting that much on a car again.

I don't see it as an insult, and I agree with the sentiment about asking for opinions online about cars, its either:
- they want to show off (new money, so maybe); or
- they haven't done their own homework (which questions the OP's smarts, since usually those with money are smart about it and research their purchases)

Look at the comparison of a new R8 to a used Gallardo... sure they are about the same price, yet the Gallardo is going to be much more to maintain.

Then look at how he stumbled upon the R8, driving with his agent. So if his agent owned a GT3 this thread would be about Porsches.
