Ties for smaller people

I need new ties for work. I am not a midget but I am also not a big person (5'7, 150 lbs), im just not very tall. The normal ties are way to thick for me and looks out of proportion to my body size. Im looking for skinnier ties that will be in proportion with my body height/size, without going with the super skinny ties that you can find at like h&m etc, I guess Im looking for a tie somewhere in the middle, I have a few ties from club monaco that are the width that im looking for, can anyone else suggest a place to look? Also, I noticed that with some ties I buy, because of my height, the tie is too long (back end hangs lower than front end), do people get them altered shorter?

hope this wasnt too confusing...

thanks

I bought some ties from tie rack at oakridge that aren't too wide, cheap too cause they were closing, The regular H&M ties aren't that wide, I'm 5'8 and 150 and they're fine on me. On the alteration, you can't really see the back end of the tie right? so maybe just cut it off and sew it close again? I don't know i totally know what you mean though when the back is longer than the front, just change ur technique a bit i guess

I'm a huge fan of the skinny ties and at H&M they have some for around $10 and some for around $40. Places like Harry Rosen would be a good bet if you don't mind spending a bit more.

Thanks for the reply...ooh Ive never seen the regualr ties at H&M before, I only thought they sold the skinny ties which I am not a fan of. I don't know why I just feel that skinny ties are more of a fashion thing then a professional thing, so I kind of want my ties a bit wider. Ya I was thinking that was the way to go to alter my tie. thanks!

skinny can mean as thin as 1", while traditional fat ties are around 3.5"
you can find ties in all sizes in between. i bought a tie at harrys that was 2.95".
slightly more narrow than your dad's ties but not too fashion forward and looks professional.
