Car sponsorship programs, do they work?

Anyone have experience with those car sponsorship programs that help you build your car?

My AE86 with S2000 motor just blew up the engine at the track on Sunday and that got me thinking..... I got the car running in excellent condition chasing cars 10x the price easily with over the counter bits and the interior/exterior is absolutely mint what if I get some sponsorship going on so I can actually build this like a proper machine I can actually bring to shows or what not? I am planning to have to dissemble the car quite thoroughly and get everything done the proper way this time.

but this would be a long road for me if I go build this using my own money and time and buy everything at retail.....

so what's the deal with these car sponsorship programs out there? Anyone got experience to share?

Car would look cool with some sponsor decals, But like stated above, You probably need something more unique and interesting, I mean there are tons of ae86 out there.

You could probably ask around just random stores to sponsor you, But this isn't some professional racecar thats entered in all the championships etc. so I doubt it

there are some stuff from AEM stoptech etc and for show there are Meguiars and stuff....

I'm still digging around for those programs...These are not for sponsoring race cars more like small time sponsor for people who are interested in building show cars or what not that bear their company names and you promise to be a sellout (stick their stickers, wear their swags and drive to all the car meets and shows, etc) that kind of deal.

Umm I think those 'programs' are for people who WORK FOR the companies (or actually OWN them) or people who work at retail outlets that SELL those products.

As a private person just building your own car who knows nobody - fat chance.

That is true.. mostly because it can be written off as promotional expenses.

However if you are developing an ignition system eg. you can even get labour and material cost up to 75% refunded by the gov R&D program.
