If a cop confiscate your ID's...

can you report it lost and re-apply for new one?

Well, a cop confiscated my real ID's...
and well, there are reasons where I can't go see him and get it back from him...

Is it possible to report it lost and reapply for new ones? The cop said to call his cell to get the ID's back, so I'm guessing he didn't hand it to the police station.

So can I reapply? Or is there no other way but to get it back from him...

The obvious question would be "why can't you get back to him"?

Reporting it lost is essentially creating a lie and can be seen as fraud. You know where it is but are just not willing to get it back. If the cop ever found out that you cheated or weaseled your way around this matter, I'm sure he would not be sympathetic. In fact, you might get a knock on your door and just have an awful day.

This police forum is turning into the "how can I get around the law" forum.

if you have a stupid question, where you're obviously wrong, and you want to weasel your way out of a situation, DON'T POST HERE.

this forum was for legitimate questions to police officers (who do browse RS), about misconceptions.

Contact the Cop who took your ID for whatever reason...and ask him/her why it is being retained ? Makes me wonder why it was kept. I have kept ID, DLs etc that had been altered as evidence in an investigation. It is illegal for you to have 2 copies of a DL anyway. Not positive about BC ID card, if that is what you mean by "ID"?

Turning? Ha.. it's been like this for way too long. It is, however, a mild form of entertainment for us law-abiding types, who get a kick out of reading some of the sob stories that RS members post.

He took my Canadian ID and HongKong ID.

First of all, if you guys are gonna be dicks and not try to help then don't bother replying.

When you say things like "real IDs" and "there are reasons where I can't go and see him" you make us pretty suspicious of your reasons for asking this question.

Whats a 'real' ID anyway?

Ok, my friend was in possession of my wallet.

Cop sees him with my wallet, and asks him for picture ID's, he takes out his DL and my wallet [it was in the same pocket], cop sees him with my id's and says he can't be in possession of my ID's and confiscated it.

I see who the cop that I have to get my ID's back from is and I have my reasons.

Of course it's possible to reapply for new ID; just like how it's possible for me to punch you in the face. It's possible, but is it right?

What are the reasons to not get the ID's back from him?

If you have to be shady, at least learn to be smart.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

That depends on the circumstances. But yes, if there are grounds/reasons to.

There is a lot more to this story than the OP is telling, so let's just go back to the original question. If you want your ID back contact the Police Officer who took it and ask for it back. IF it is being retained for some legal reason, then he/she should be able to tell you why and when you will get it back. Problem solved.

why even post a question like this? go to driver services and apply for a new DL... worst they can do is say no... it's not breaking the law to apply for a new DL

I'm being a dick, cause you're being an idiot. You deserve this to say the least. Don't make assumptions? You're scared to tell the whole story online, so what else can we do? Obviously I am going to make an assumption on the situation. Wait....here it comes......

You gave your ID to an underage kid, who got busted for something they aren't supposed to do. Cop sees the ID's, confiscates them, and is now looking for the dumbfuck (re: YOU) who gave the ID's to the youngin.

Didn't like that assumption? Then buck up.

Now for something more helpful. The end result is an easy one, there was no need to post this on a forum, all you needed was common sense. Cop has your ID's, and you want to report them as lost/stolen to get new ones (IDK how you get your HK one). It grinds down to TWO simple solutions.

1) This is the most plausible. Cop doesn't give a FUCK, cause they usually don't. They figure the kid who owns the ID will want them back, so they will contact them. If you reported them lost/stolen, the cop would never know, the ID's would eventually get filed/thrown away. You get fresh ID's, everyone goes home.

2) Cop has your IDs. They have all your information (address/phone number). Cop finds YOU. If you reported them lost/stolen, cop might have a problem with that, since you're trying to weasel out from seeing them. You'd also might get in shit with ICBC (doubt it) for purposely reporting them lost/stolen when you know they were in custody of the law enforcement.

Should look up the criminal code definitions of "counselling an offense", and "aiding" as an accessory to the fact. IF that is what you did, then you know where to find
"sympathy" in the dictionary. Maybe it IS being kept as evidence?

regardless what it is being held for, it is up to you to get a replacement. if you get pulled over and don't have your DL, you will get a ticket. so go to ICBC and apply for a new DL, simple

Just curious, but why did this person have your wallet and ID and produce it to the Police ? You need not say anything. Anything you do say will be taken down, twisted around and used against you in a court of law. You have the right to colour TV, you have the right to free pizza and porn for your new year's eve party, you have the right to conjugal visits and you have the right to be released for extended day passes after serving only 1/6th of your prison term. Gotta love our system.

I no longer need this question answered because I'm going to contact the officer.

Thanks.

Also, my ID was not lent to an underage kid. But instead, it was my friend who had my wallet and he got them confiscated.
He is 5 days younger than me. Legal age.

Ensure you guys it's nothing illegal...
Hell, I wouldn't even cross the street when the no crossing light is on when there's no cars on the road.

Anyway, I got this solved, so thanks to everyone who attempted to help.
This case can be closed or anything. Should've known not to ask this here.

lol, just said you lost it and go apply a new one

if you get into trouble later from the police, tell him your friend whom had your wallet told you he lost your ID, and never told you it was confiscated.

If the police go confront your friend, just tell your friend to say he was too chicken to tell you the police confiscated your ID, so he just lied to you and said it was lost..

"So sorry officer, it is just one big miscommunication laa~~"
