Evo III Import Help!

I know I'm probably going to get in crap for posting another thread about importing, but mercy is a virtue remember.

here is the deal. I have someone who is ready to ship me an evo 3 / lancer evolution III from Japan.

I only have a few days to get things together. I have been looking but can’t find anyone that has imported an evo so I don't know what needs to be done to get it ready for inspection. Is there a reason why I have only seen one in Vancouver?
are they a pain in the ass to get passed inspection?

I was hoping someone could help me with a parts list of what I will need.
and a good place to take it for inspection.
I heard that we have to submit the inspection on line with pictures because too many cars we getting passed with out the needed equipment.

also any good tips to get it off the dock when it's here?

do I need a broker or can I just do it?

any help would be grate!

I've seen quite a few evos here. I think the only thing you have to worry about is mods and make sure your exauhst is DOT approved. and mabye headlights considering its RHD. I cant really think of anything else that could be rejected. I think its easier if you get a company to do the paperwork for you, considering your asking these questions. But a quick google search could help as well.

The obvious first step is getting DOT approved tires. Then it's DOT approved Headlights, which are the same as a 4door mitsubishi Mirage/dodge colt. Then You get your daytime running lights installed and take it in anywhere that does provincial inspections to get your Out of Province inspection. Then you take it to an insruance place to get it registered with the passed inspection forms, they spot the VIN numbers and you're pretty much good to go. I'm probably forgetting some things because I did my Evo 1 over two years ago. A good site for help with early evo stuff is evo321.com and another good forum to be a part of is mirageforums.net (there are a bunch of guys on there with mirage->evo conversions that will help you with any parts you may eventually need)

as for getting it off the dock, i dont really have a lot of info for that bit. I got my car through an importer and just did all the DOT and inspections stuff myself to save money.

If your time frame is that short, a broker will be your best bet. Don't rush it all to save a few bucks.

I don't think the EVO III is legal to import yet. 1995 + 15 = 2010

what is the manufacturing date of your EVO III? please get the exact month and year.

the guy in Japan says it's a 94 November.

so did they start building them in 94 and didn't start selling them till 95?

or it's a evo 2 with a kit on it.

I have picks but haven't figgered out how to post them yet.

Anything made in august or after is sold as a next years model

ie November 1994 is a 1995 model.

It's possible it's a I or II with a III body kit. I've seen quite a few of those kicking around on importers/exporters. A lot of people simply just assume its a 3 because of that. Mine used to be confused as a III because my front lip made my bumper look similar to the III. If it is truely an e3 though you better hold off on bringing it over, I'd hate to see it get sent back to japan because it came a few months early :P

like cole said, headlights and tires are your biggest concern.

All of your glass is stamped correctly, and as long as your car isnt leaking any serious fluids, you should be good to go.

If you are strapped for time and cash, I'm selling my 1993 Evo I for $5500

if your car is built in November 1994, you can't register it until November this year. I'm not sure if customs will even allow you to bring in the car before then either?

there are plenty of EVO I and II's with the EVO III bodykit.
