06+ Civic Si 2nd Gear GRIND

There's a number of people on 8thcivic.com that have experienced this problem.

Tranny grinding when shifting at redline or in vtec.

Has anybody else experienced this???

Meant tranny.

It's used so it's ok to redline. Not even redline but when I'm in vtec

I'd get the fluid changed. And let them know of your issues.
I thought the civics had a known 3Rd gear problem/pop out.and No issues in the first to second gear.

wats wrong with ur 3rd gear

all k20/ all honda 6 speed tranny have issues

depends how serious

2nd gear grind, 3rd gear pop

Now i only first notice this when the weather gets cold, hence aka last winter. SO i always warm up my car for 2-4 minutes before driving, otherwise it drives like shit when its ice cold outside. Car felt sluggish, auto start for the win.

now if its not full opreating temperature the chance of those two problems to occour is a lot higher as well..

Now what i tend to do now is during winter season i will change my tranny fluid everytime i change my engine fluid. I use Motul 8100 5W40 for engine (every 4500-5000km), honda tranny fluid for tranny. Honda fluid seems to be the best recommanded for the tranny, now some people may recommand Amsoil, royal purple, GM synchromesh for their tranny. but i heard it takes longer for it to warm up which can be a problem during cold.

my 2nd gear never grind ever since im more willing to flush the tranny oil. 3rd gear pops once in a blue moon if i dont change fluid often during winter. Summer time its totally fine, i dont even have to warm the car.

Spoon head chief designer recommand changing manual tranny fluid everytime u change ur engine oil anyway

A lot of the s2000's have this problem with the second gear grinding.

My s2000 used to have it. I got the tranny fluid changed and it made quite a difference. It is barely there now. But when it is there its usually on a very cold day and once the tranny starts to warm up the grinding goes away. But I never drive the car in winter so yea.

I've never had a problem with third gear though.

syn fluid may take longer to warm up, or in another words during cold start it will drive more clunky and notchy. Thats wat i was told

so i sticked with OEM and juts change a lot more often

since u just bought the car, take it back and tell them to test drive. If it needs to cool down or stay over night than so be it, let them know how much of a bitch it is when 3rd gear pops during cold start. Synchromesh may need to be replaced

Honda manual trans fluid is synthetic i believe. I'll have to double check that though. There is an issue with the late model civic 6 speeds popping out of gear. The syncro is to be replaced. It takes about a day to do.

FYI, there are links to Honda service reports on the 8th gen civics website. Helped me convince the dealer to replace my 3rd gear set (2008 Civic Si FG2). So it might help out with the 2nd gear grind i did see some pdf posts.

There is a bulletin out for a 3rd gear grind on the 06+ Civic Si (FG2/FA5). Honda will replace the 3rd gear set and replace your MTF. It's a full-day job so book far in advance and get a courtesy car.
