Entrance Exam for JIBC (law enforcement)

Just curious, for those who have done well on this exam - which books/guides, if any, did you use to prepare before-hand?

I've been recommended this one:

'Comprehensive Guide To Canadian Police Officer Exams'

http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/...5107-item.html

$59 in store at Chapters.

Is this the RCMP test?

I didnt study at all and I passed. It's mainly stuff you cant really study for anyways.

Some stuff, you can "study" for it... like grammar and math.

Like any exam, the more you do it, the better you are at it. A good score is always better than a passing score.

It's for the JIBC so municipal rather than RCMP. The recruiters are recommending people prepare in advance using one of these prep books.

I went to Burnaby Public Library (the metrotown branch) and borrowed a similar book. The book was from the 90s and designed for the US police, but its pretty much the same idea. It went through the main competencies being tested in the exam and explained why the answers were what they were. At the back of the book, there were about 5 practice exams that had been actual exams in the past.

Now, a ton of it seemed like common sense, but to someone who had wrapped up at university for a few years, it was good practice to get back into the "test mode". My test results were quite good, and looking back on it, generally the material is all very similar. The rest/updating, you learn in training/in the field.

just an fyi: You don't take a "JIBC" exam. It depends on the agency you are applying for. Each police dept has a different entrance exam. Its really simple, and its just meant to weed you out if you can't do basic math/grammar. Its meant to be easy, and most don't have a problem with it.

ninjatune 10-09-2009 04:40 PM

I used the term JIBC to differentiate between municipal and RCMP rather than just typing it all out ;)

Delta's fail rate on their intake exam has been 50% or so lately....
