i'm not sure if you are referring to BMWs that are sold in north america, but for the chinese market, BMW has a production plant in china for some versions (i think the 5-series)...

[edit] here is the article:
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/en/doc/...ent_285583.htm

it mentions that they have already been building 3-series models for the chinese market there as well.

there is a more recent article mentioning that they are considering production of the 1-series in china also.

BMW Manufacturing Co. Spartanburg is BMW's only US production facility. It was built to serve the demand of BMW automobiles directly in the US. Due to the structure of BMW's production plan, however, the Spartanburg plant does not actually assemble all BMW vehicles sold in the US market; instead, the plant serves as the only X5, X6, and Z4 production site in the world. Hence, all models of these vehicles exported worldwide originate from BMW Spartanburg.

You're correct. My e92 335i was made in Regensburg but some 3 series, I believe the E90's for the US market, are made in SA.
