Cracked Lips

For the past year, I've seen to be suffering from constantly cracked and peeling lips even though I've tried numerous brands of lip balm.

Sometimes they have a pruney texture as well which worries me.

Has anyone went through the same problem I have?

cdizzle_996 11-07-2009 11:32 PM

I do. Iusually use Nivea lip care and it starts working within a few days. If i notice them getting dry i put it on right away.

Deezle 11-07-2009 11:43 PM

yea, i use aveeno intensive care... works pretty good for dry/cracked lips

I carry this around with me everywhere now, since it's dry season again. avail at London Drugs, Shoppers etc...

BTW if this is a continous problem for you HG, you should get it checked out - chapped lips all the time could signal that there is something more serious AFAIK

Really?

I sometimes get periods of really dry lips, to the point that it hurts. after a couple days of lip balm it goes away but it could always come back. Usually happens at odd times in the year, it goes away, and comes back a after a couple of months...

+1
After YEARS of trying every brand out there, I finally found the one that works no matter how dry my lips get.
Year round I use Aveeno Intensive. If I find my lip super dry, I keep reapplying for like 24 hrs, the dryness is gone.

Razor Ramon HG 11-09-2009 01:11 AM

I'll try Aveeno Intensive. I've been using Blistex Ultra Moisture or something like that and it seems to work for the first day or two, then the skin on my lip like dies or something and creates huge giant clusters of dry skin that peels at the edges.

I have to use lip balm every single day a few times per day for the past 5+ years for my dried chapped lips. If I dont then my lips will crack and start to bleed.

Yeah, well, by serious I meant like it dosent go away, hurts, has patches of different colours etc... I heard on multiple occasions that the first sign of skin cancer comes with severely cracked/chapped lips, to the point where the lips start changing colour

Egyptian magic cream?

never tried this stuff but people rave about it..

Yushimi 11-11-2009 12:55 PM

Carmex in the tube form. A lot of people love that one. Also, if you apply a layer of Vaseline at night before you sleep you'll wake up with soft lips. I used to use Estee Lauder's lip balm and that at spf which usually dries out the skin. So try and avoid the whole SPF thing. Aveeno Intensive I find it a tad oily on my lips but that's just my opinion. I've spent so much trying to find the best lip balm too lolz...honestly the only current thing that works for me is Chapstick in the light blue packaging, and at night before sleep is By Terry baume de rose. Yea if you don't feel like spending a shitload for the By Terry then I suggest Vaseline at night. Tell me how it goes! I'll try and suggest different lipbalms if you want :)

Just wanted to update this thread.

For the past month I've been using Blistex Lip Medex, and my lips are now fully smooth with no flaked skin or cracked ridges in my lips. I'm quite content :)

blistex lip medex is the shit! haven't gone back to anything else ever since i discovered it a year or 2 ago

mangopudding 12-27-2009 09:51 AM

i had this happen to me years ago after a trip to hongkong. my doctor said i suffered from a sunburn (on my lips?) and that it takes awhile before it heals. so all i did was just lather it up in blistex and let it heal over time.

Nvasion 12-28-2009 10:28 AM

i have had my lips messed up for about2 years now... i have used many chapsticks and the thing that worked best for me was the burtsbees. I will have to try the blistex. everytime i eat something spicy or really salty my lips irriate so bad that if i dont use the chapstick my lips will swell up.
