Hey guys, I need some advice/help on mounting tires. I have a hybrid bike that has 700x32mm tires on 18mm wide rims. I bought the package deal on Wiggle for the 25mm Conti GP4000S x2 + 5 Conti Race 28 tubes.
This is the first time I've ever mounted tires. I watched a bunch of how-to vids and thought I had an idea of what to do. After a bit of a struggle, I was able to get my front tire mounted. I checked the tire bead and it appeared to sit normally. I pumped up and deflated the tire a few cycles, to 60PSI and 80 PSI, then I pumped it to 90PSI. As I was mounting the front wheel to my bike, I hear a pop and blew the inner tube.
After inspecting the tube, it looks like the hole is on the outer part of the inner tube. I see several "bumps" on the outer part of the tube as well.  
So is this installation error? What did I do wrong and what should I do differently?

That's really strange. At first, before looking at the photos, I thought you may have some debris between the tire and the tube that caused a blowout. but that's weird since they are both new.
Never seen a tube like that before. Maybe they are defective? Try pumping up a new tube unmounted so you can see how the shape is - don't have to pump up too much. There shouldn't be any weird bumps on them.

Maybe you pinched the tube while trying to get the tire onto the rim? that could be a possibility. That or there's debris on the rim (but ur 2nd photo looks pretty clean)
did u use a tire lever to install the tire after u put the tube in?
the bumps are odd. No idea... just throwing out possibilities lol

My first guess was rim tape too. My bet is a defective tube. Pinched tubes generally get the "Snakebite" type puncture, and wouldn't hold any pressure at all.

Thanks guys. I pumped up another tube and it looked fine, no bumps. I was able to get it mounted. We'll see how long this one lasts.

tempted to do the granfondo but 160km seems a bit too much for me especially which apparently a huge climb climbing sumas mountain.
maybe i'll do the medio one for 88km.

Did 80km today. Started at home, stopped by Performance One, Iona Beach (freakin' strong winds ARGH!) Steveston and back home.
I'm so died. 
Edit: 604CEFIRO - Ever since I washed my bike, my bottom bracket is creaking.

Parts day! 
Concerning mounting tubes/tires.. the dimples/damage look very close to tire lever damage. I try and avoid using tire levers. Less chance to rupture the tube if just massaging the bead onto the rim by using your hands.
Mind you I did kill a brand new tube last week because it had a fold as I was airing it up. Some times you just get unlucky.

Almost anyone in half decent athletic shape can do and finish a gran fondo of any length
But most people doing the ride would set a goal of how long it would take them to finish, whether or not they're gonna take rest stops, etc. To achieve that u gotta train for it.
I'm pretty sure that web page u referenced shows the course and the meters ascended. Take that info and replicate it locally and u will know what it takes.
Riding and finishing any fondo is a great achievement. But setting goals and training for it would make the result that much better.
Have you ridden 160kms in one ride before? It does take time to train for that... You have less than 8 weeks to prepare for 160kms with a lot of ascending.
I've been training for the whistler 120km fondo since winter time lol.

I've never done more than 100 in one ride, max was 95km. that was early may and without much riding prior to that. only a few stanley park rides and a few rides in poco. i'd say under 8 rides before that event.
so in regards to training, do you actually work out and ride? or just ride as much as possible and do repeats of climbs to rep the amount of meters ascending?
i have a lot of work ahead of me lol, my goal is to finish lol within a reasonable time of course

I just took a look at the ride on my desktop comp... Didn't realize that it was actually local fondo lol.
That ride is really just distance... there isn't much gain in altitude... maybe 600 meters or so? The gain in elevation is equivalent to riding from Richmond to Stanley Park and back... So really, there isn't much climbing.
