not that this is really any more effective at working the pecs - more just showing off, but this guys shows that there are advantages to being in the under 150 pound category. he's got lots of other fitness vids too that are worth having a looksee. phenomenal conditioning overall.

Explosive pushups (clapping, or where your hands leave the floor) are definitely more effective than regular ones, IMO

i guess it depends on what your goals are. explosive exercises will better develop power for sure, but you lose the benefits of the eccentric phase of the exercise. i've been seeing more and more people at the gym lately that are trying kipping type exercises, but everyone just seems to throw form right out the window and just try for max speed. it's funny watching them thrash around while they think they are training better than everyone else. not that i don't agree with kipping, but there is definitely a right and a wrong way to do it.

I agree kipping is hilarious. But in a way, kipping pullups are pretty much the opposite of a powerful push up. They basically use momentum, not power. It's even funnier when people claim that a kipping pull up is "harder" than a normal one :lol

did u mean to say pullups or pushups? probably doesn't matter in either sense. anyways, the whole concept behind kipping as i understand it is power training. doing more work in less time and using more of your body to accomplish it. they compare kipping to running in that running is primarily a lower body exercise, yet you run with much more efficiency when you use your upper body as well.

The way I see it, doing a 'power' push up (where your hands leave the floor) is not akin to a 'kipping' pull-up (where you are using momentum to allow you to do more reps)

But my brain is pretty dead right now, maybe we are saying the same thing. Good night!

i think we're on opposite ends of the discussion here. i believe they are similar. both encompass the plyometrics method of training of "loading and exploding" like a baseball bat hiting a ball or a sling shot.

and yes, good night to you sir, although i think you might have your AMs and PMs mixed up again. open a curtain perhaps? kidding... you're obviously a graveyarder.

Psst. Look at my location.. My AM is your PM ;)

Kipping pull ups have their place. Great for athletes where hip drive is important. If you are a bodybuilder, not so much.

Anyone one that dismisses them for what they are- is probably missing the point. Kettle ball swings are good as well.

The problem is when kippers do a hundred of them and see it as a point of pride, compared to those that use body weight ;)
