Unmarked Cruiser in Richmond last night smoking in car...rant

I'm beside this unmarked cruiser last night at a light in Richmond, and I look over to see the officer ashing a smoke out the window. Isn't the cruiser a workplace? How is this allowed? The cops were set up at the weigh scale by Golden a few months ago busting truck drivers for smoking in their cabs, but this cop can get away with it? I wish I could have gotten more info off the cruiser and reported him.

Was he wearing a RCMP uniform?

Are you sure taht it's not just pre-used Police cruiser?

Quicksilver 01-10-2010 09:24 PM

no, he had a uniform, and the car was definitely a cruiser. It had the light bar in the back window, the spot lights, the cage etc...

Would work rules still apply if he was somehow off duty?

If you're that bothered by it, do your complaining to people who can/will do something about it. Its not hard to find out who it might have been.

RCMP policy is no smoking in ther PCs. You can smoke outside them. Taxi drivers are forbidden to smoke with passengers in the cab but I'm not aware of any law prohibiting truckers from smoking in their own rigs? I stand to be corrected.

seekerbeta 01-11-2010 08:57 AM

isn't it because there is a "No Smoking in your workplace thing" and their rigs are technically their workplaces?

Our engineers and conductors aren't allowed to smoke in the locomotive cabs anymore... at least, that's what the company says.
