you'll probably have to pre-order from a store. the cost of these are much higher than duck, that's why it's not commonly sold here.

I'm not sure even if goose is allowed to be eaten in canada?

never even heard of

maybe i will check with my neighbours see if they caught any near the lake and brought it home....BBQ TIME!!!

:haha:

distanc3 02-01-2010 12:15 PM

@ Mugen, i dont think those are the same "goose" people from China/HK eat.

i think they banned goose in Canada, but I remember seeing some in Chinatown's bbq places once in a while near Chinese new years tho... think it was like 20bucks and they were HUGE

on the topic of food, you know those Canadian geese that crap everywhere? i recall the government wanting to round them up (since there is a over population of them) and cooking them for the homeless. =T

godwin 02-01-2010 12:39 PM

Yes, there are farms in the lower mainland that raises them. However the problem is they are usually expensive and most people won't go for it, if it is 2x the price of a duck.

Google for Embden geese.

i HEARD that sam well BBQ in the presidents plaza has it.
someone go scope it out? might go in a few weeks

godwin 02-01-2010 01:59 PM

Oh in case anyone is expecting the same breed of geese as in China.. no Embden geese are a totally different breed (it doesn't have the enlarged basal area). The Chinese ones are closer to Swans.

The ones we get are typically the ones you see in "duck duck goose goose" type children illustrations.

sonick 02-01-2010 02:18 PM

I want to eat a mo'fuckin swan.

My dad loves this man, whenever he sees it on sale, we go eat it.

I think duck actually taste better than goose. Nevertheless, I'll always have a good goose drumstick whenever I head back to hk

dlu 02-01-2010 05:03 PM

ive seen goose go on sale in safeway around christmas time but never around any other time.. the same one from the link that godwin posted

godwin 02-01-2010 08:44 PM

It is an age thing.. because these days chicken is harvested at 3 weeks.. typically the older the animal the more taste there is.. goose can live up to 30 years.

Another thing you might want to ask your chinese BBQ place is ask if they will do the bird for you if you bring them the goose. I think the issue is with supply (you probably can't get goose via their supplier).. I know there are a few places in Richmond that do turkey for their customers in their roaster.

Oh another reason why BBQ in HK/China is different? They use charcoal vs propane. Honestly Charcoal tastes better.
