Thumbs up for Cathay Pacific!

I just got off my 13 hour flight to HK, the amenities that they have made the flight pass by SO FAST.

For those of you that are unaware of their kick ass features, I flew with the new planes CX 889 (at least it's new inside)

1. they have A/C plug for my laptop, i watched 4 hours of tv shows
2. they have 20+ latest movies, I can start/stop it whenever i want
3. all the chairs are redesigned, you won't get crushed from the person in front because they want to "lie down"
4. food is decent, plenty of cup noodles for everyone
5. headrest support is fucking awesome, too bad i discovered it in the last 1.5 hours of my flight
6. the pilot left YVR right at 2am, got to hong kong 1 hour early
7. there's also a slot for USB and seems like a LAN cable slot, I asked the flight attendent if internet is available but she didn't know. (anyone knows?)

compared to JAL last year, and even cathay 2 years ago, I have never been so impressed and it didn't feel like 13 hours at all. this is why i stay far far away from Air Canada...

sorry no pictures, my camera was up in the bag storage and didn't feel like grabbing it and bothering others.

that's all.

Air Canada flight I just got off of from Vancouver to Calgary had the same features. It was a A320-M3.

You think Air Canada is bad... I flew AA 4 times in the past 2 weeks, not by choice of course and they're ridiculously bad. I enjoyed watching my in-flight movie in green and purple on a 13" CRT about 25' away. Good times!

I've heard good things about Cathay myself. My old boss knows a higher-up there and can get friends / family upgraded 1st class for free. NY here I come!

air canada is no different when i fly to korea.

it has all the things u mentioned, movies, dramas, ac plug, touch screen, controller to play games, usb slot, credit card phone, etc.

same with korean air. in the last 2 years, i think most airlines changed to have these features in +10hour flights.

$1385 left last night, coming back on 26th? i think

well, last time i travelled was last august on JAL to tokyo.
the attendants on board were all 40ish mean ladies, chairs looks pretty ripped. so this time when i went on the cathay planes, i was like WOW.

i hope i can get the same plane going back.

can anyone confirm that they have internet access? or no?

NO

the new seats are fucking uncomfortable. instead of being able to recline, you SLOUCH in your seat. how is that better? i'd rather give up a bit of leg room so i can sleep properly with the seat reclined. the way the new seats are, i always end up sleeping with my head hanging in front of me instead of naturally leaning against the headrest. the last few hours of the flight i have the sorest neck and am just in pain with extreme discomfort. worst sleep ever in a plane. everyone ive spoken to feels the same way about these new seats. its probably because you were so excited by the entertainment and didnt attempt to sleep that you didnt notice how terrible these new seats are for sleeping. huge thumbs down from me.

also, the food is not decent. the only thing i enjoyed was the snack which was a sandwich and a cookie. the normal in flight meals were just as bad as ever and have not been improved.

There was so much tv content that I never re-watched a single movie/show. As a matter of fact, I didn't have enough time to watch everything! lol

As mentioned early, Air Canada already has many of these features.

The problem has never been the planes. It's been the people.

Cathay is awesome, best airliner in the world but AC isn't bad to Asia if you're lucky to get the 77LR or 773.

The new seats do suck. They just make you slouch. Not recline. The food was decent, but a lot of the shortcomings are covered by the included alcohol. With enough booze, you can pass out for the duration of the trip. Just be sure to drink a lot of water!

make sure you pace your drinking on a flight.
or else you could get drunk, and wake up 2 hours later with a hangover in your seat!
not a good feeling!

AC has better business class/exec class seats/pods than many other airlines. ie. asiana. the beds dont fold flat whereas AC they do. And AC does have all the things mentioned above in Eco class

AA/UA/CO (all american airlines) are pretty much crap, because of old planes . int.

BA isn't that much better. Granted I've only flown them on one trip (YVR-LHR-TLV and back) but the planes are pretty old (esp the YVR-LHR/LHR-YVR) and service isn't all that much better than say United or AC for that matter.

I disagree. I flew Cathay business class and it was amazing. Their lie-flat beds are the same as what you get in AC's first class.

As for your comment on American carriers - also not true. I flew NWA last year and the interiors were completely overhauled and very nice.

Oh, and I also enjoyed Top Gear on my flight aboard CX...
