Toyota Corolla Recall 2010 another Bite in the Rear for Japanese Automaker
February 17th, 2010

Toyota Corolla recall another bite in the rear for Japanese automaker. Toyota could have to recall their popular small sedan the Corolla after many complaints about the power steering. This would be the third major recall for the car manufacturer in a relatively short period of time.

Prior to the recalls, Toyota has long been hailed as the king of quality. Many business books have been treated as religious rules of thumbs for many manufacturers – even those outside the car industry.

Now, several models have been recalled because of complaints that the accelerators stick. The popular hybrid Prius was recalled because of a ‘software glitch’ in the braking system.

At least 34 people are dead, and the accelerator issue could be to blame. Future models will have a fail safe that will cut the engine off if the

And now, Corolla owners may be facing headaches as well. Details of the possible recall haven’t rolled out yet, and despite recent reports that the company’s top official would visit Congress to address the American people, he’s not going to do so any time soon.

Toyota sales have plummeted 16% after the recalls were issued. This could be good news for Ford and GM, two American auto companies that could use all the help they can get for sales right now.

It could just turn out that Toyotas have just as many problems as their American counterparts. We have so long lived under the belief that there was something almost magical about how the Japanese made cars, that we almost thought of them as superior. If our beliefs turn out to be wrong, then more and more Americans could turn to American made cars.

So let's get this straight. Toyotas can't steer (Corollas), can't brake (Prius), and have sticking gas pedals (Camrys).

Awesome.
