Sun Run 2010

Anyone planning to do it this year? It's pushed back this year to May 9 due to the olympics.. I believe.

Last year my time was 1:29 non-stop jogging with almost no training. I'm aiming for 1:20 this year!

I was kinda training for it but now I'm just gonna run 10k on my own lol. I ran/ walked 6.4k other day and I'm no where near what I want to be for sun run.

May 9th eh???

Wholly shit....thats only 1 week after the BMO Van Marathon. I'll be training for that, so i don't think i will do it, but probably just hang around downtown as the sun run is going on.

My last 10k run was the Fall Classic at UBC....that was 53min.

I'll be having my killzone marathon around those dates, woot. Too fat to run....

it's not too shabby i guess. i think i might need some training this year, as i haven't ran since last year's sun run LOL.

if i can do this run... non stop.. i'm sure anybody can. :D

twitchyzero 03-01-2010 09:36 PM

im interested in doing it this year.
i dont have any experience with marathons...most i have done is 3km lol

i usually run 1 mile in 7min30...would 1 hour 10 min be a reasonable goal for 10k?

RayBot 03-01-2010 09:44 PM

No way man....you should be done in about 50 minutes. I run an 8 minute mile, and I am done 10km in less than 55.

Regardless if most you have done 3km....with a little bit of training and maintaining that pace, you'll impress yourself.

hmm..i dont know how well my stamina/endurance is though
how much is it usually with a group? $30?

RayBot 03-02-2010 03:26 PM

For anyone interested, i started a beginners running group and put up a page on Facebook, for whoever is interested in doing training for the sun run in a more social aspect.

I'm an off-and-on runner and I'm hardly in top shape, but I ran a 10K last fall (Turkey Trot) in 47 minutes with basically a month of training, at 2-3 times a week.

If you start training now, you can easily run the Sun Run in under 55 minutes. The key is to vary your runs:

- one quicker run at a shorter distance to build speed
- one long run to build endurance
- and run on routes with hills (and preferably, pick up your pace on hills) to build strength

And of course, if you cross-train (core work, yoga, etc.), you'll definitely see a difference.
