Hachiko: A Dog's Story http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1028532/ Just saw this the other day, a very touching movie. This movie actually made me cry  A must watch to all animal lovers! |
ill go rent it this weekend |
rogers video doesnt have this movie  |
pretty good movie, just be warned that its VERY, VERY touching. |
It's based off a true Japanese story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachiko If any of you have been to Shibuya there's a statue dedicated to it. |
I'd love to watch this movie but I can't stand Richard Gere's work for anything more than 10 minutes. |
this is sad too  |
I challenge anybody (esp dog owners) to watch this movie without crying |
My wife was crying pretty much through the whole movie. I'm not much of a cryer, but it's definitely a touching story. A bit overly melodramatic and cheesy, but girls (and couples) will probably enjoy it :) |
First off I would like to say thank you to itsallaboutgz for starting a thread that I would have made regardless. This is by far the saddest movie i've seen ever. Maybe it's because i'm a huge dog fan and i've too lost my dogs...Yes more then 1 dog. I came across this movie one day when I noticed there was a new dog movie out. I checked out the reviews on IMDB and it was rated 8/10...Pretty good ratings if you ask me! After watching this movie...I couldn't believe how much I have cried. This movie was so touching that I couldn't explain in words what it meant to me. Here's a little info about the dog that is so famous in Japan that they built a statue for him before he died... Hachiko lived from November 10, 1923–March 8, 1935. Hachiko was an Akita dog born on a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture. In 1924, Hachiko was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life Hachiko saw him out from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered a stroke at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting. Hachiko was given away after his master's death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. Eventually, Hachiko apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachiko waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he did not see his friend among the commuters at the station. The permanent fixture at the train station that was Hachiko attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachiko and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought Hachiko treats and food to nourish him during his wait. This continued for 10 years, with Hachiko appearing only in the evening time, precisely when the train was due at the station. Hachiko died on a street in Shibuya on March 8, 1935. His stuffed and mounted remains are kept at the National Science Museum of Japan in Ueno, Tokyo. In 1987 they made a japanese film about him and now in 2009 the hollywood version was made. Also back in 2002 if you guys remember the one episode of futurama "Season 4 Episode 7: Jurassic Bark" A flashback shows that Fry's pet dog Seymour faithfully obeyed Fry's last command, to wait for him in front of Panucci's Pizza until he came back from his delivery run on December 31, 1999. While Fry is trapped and frozen in the cryogenic lab, Seymour stays there as the years pass and he, the pizzeria, and Mr. Panucci begin to show their age; in the final shot, Seymour lies down and closes his eyes and dies.. This was how the real Hachiko looked like: http://davidinjapan.files.wordpress....05/hachiko.jpg http://www.loneleeplanet.com/blogs/l...hachiko_01.jpg http://www.shiroshita.dog.sk/image/hachiko.jpg And here is the famous statue outside of the Shibuya Station in Japan http://davidinjapan.files.wordpress....ko200505-2.jpg They also had him stuffed and on display for everyone to see... http://davidinjapan.files.wordpress....ko-hakusei.jpg http://www.pinktentacle.com/images/canine_1.jpg |
