Chicks dig guys that can cook.

CorneringArtist brought up the idea that I should make a thread were I post recipes when I try something new. I'll post pics when I get a chance.
Most of the stuff I make is fairly cheap and easy to make but tastes pretty good.

Mashed Cauliflower

Cheese Cake

Mashed Cauliflower

What you will need:

Cauliflower
Garlic (I prefer fresh)
Cream Cheese
Pepper (I like to grind it myself)

How to make it:

Heat up a frying pan. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Put however much cauliflower you are gonna want to eat in. While its cooking throw chopped garlic in the frying pan and brown it.
Once the cauliflower and garlic is done throw it in a food processor. Throw some cream cheese in. Blend it till its a paste.
Put it on a plate. Grind pepper on top and enjoy.

The whole process will most likely take less time then making potatoes.

Cheese Cake

What you need:

Cream Cheese
Dry curd Cottage Cheese
Natural Yogurt
Spenda
Vanilla Extract
Chopped Pecans
Peanut Butter
A pan of some sort (I use an aluminum pie pan)

How to make it:

Take the pecans and throw them in a blender for a bit till its fairly fine (but not a paste.. I like it chunky).. Take a bunch of peanut butter and warm it up till its soft. Mix both together. This is gonna be your "crust". Put it in the pan and sorta make it into a thin layer.

Clean out your blender and throw the pan with the crust in the fridge or freezer. Next take the cottage cheese and mix some yogurt in with it. You can also put the vanilla extract and a couple packets of splenda in (this is preference of how sweet you want it). Blend it up till there is no chunks. Chop the cream cheese up into smaller chunks (it makes it easier to blend up later this way). Once its all nice and smooth take the crust out. Dump the "cheese cake" in and try to make it a nice even layer..
You are gonna want to chill it for a while so it can harden a bit.

Tastes great and compared to store bought stuff is so much healthier. If you are trying to pack on some muscle it has a decent amount of protein.

to save trouble you can just buy those pans that come with crusts already made,
you can get em at Safeway and it saves yourself from getting a big mess of crumbs in your kitchen

You can do that. I'm not a big carb eater though so I would rather make my own crust.

For any single guy that is living on his own learning how to cook is one of the best things he can do.
A good meal and some booze to go along with it will cost you maybe $20 (unless you go with some expensive wine).. One issue with going out for food is getting the girl back to your place after. Doing this solves that problem too.

When I made the mashed cauliflower and it turned out I sent out a txt to a bunch of girls telling them how well it turned out. Guess what... 2 sent me messages back "omg that sounds awesome.. you should make it for me"..
I pretty much have girls inviting themselves over.

Win win win
The only fail is that you gotta clean up after. If the girl offers to do your dishes you have a winner. lol

Actually wine is one thing I wouldnt mind getting some help with. I dont really know much about win and wouldnt mind getting a couple bottles.
What are some cheaper good wines and typically how do you pair them up. Like white wine goes with what? Red wine goes with what?

Also what is the best way to store it after its been opened? or do you typically have to finish the whole bottle?

If you got a girl over, and after one bottle, she asks to open a second bottle....... you know you're getting some play tonight son

The key is, once you open a bottle, you have 24 hours to finish the red, 72 hours to finish the white. After 2 or 3 days, it'll start spoiling. It will only help the shelf life a bit if you keep it in a wine refrigerator.

My best suggestion is figure out exactly what you plan on cooking, and then pair a wine to that, not the other way around. See if you can find someone knowledgable at a local wine store and get their advice on a reasonably priced wine that would pair well to the dish you have in mind. I've also really come to like the interface on the Quebec liquor store website. For example, it'll recommend certain wines based on your choices of ingredients, sauces, etc.

http://www.saq.com/webapp/wcs/stores...e-food-pairing

Recorking the wine is generally okay for a short period of time, but if you plan on drinking small amounts of wine frequently, I strongly recommend getting a wine sealing kit topper thing (sorry, it's almost 4am and I can't remember the proper name). With sucking all the air out of the bottle I can keep a red out on the counter for over a week most of the time without any problems.

Chicks are suckers for a guy that cooks them a nice candlelight dinner. Sex afterwards is almost always guaranteed... It's always worked for me

Without getting into specific brands etc the general rule is white with seafood and red with meat.

That's pretty true in my friend circle,
and the ones that can't cook are always the fat ones?

but then again I don't really mind, because I'd only cook for a girl I'm interested in anyways.

theres no mystery behind that. being able to cook means you probably dont eat out as much, and consume less processed foods.

Why is that sad?

I do the majority of the cooking in the house, because I like to make things taste the way I want.
But that doesn't mean I'm going to set foot into the laundry room, or start washing toilets (that's her job).

Cooking is a life skill that people in general should know how to do. It used to be that women knew how to cook, but now they don't, and that's sad. Traditionally men didn't know how to cook, but they do now and that's a good thing.

It's like the whole Jamie Oliver show, where he tries to teach an entire town how to cook.

I mainly cook food out of a can and throw it on rice since I lack time right now to make REAL food. The fact I'm in Grade 12 doesn't help that I can't cook myself since I live at home. However, I need to start cooking for myself eventually, gotta start building up a repertoire of recipes for when I leave home.

unless you want to get your chick into the habbit of expecting you to cook for her all the time, i dont suggest you show off your cooking skills too much. Unless you dont mind. They tend to get lazy when they know you can cook good.
