Old Bank Notes

alright, I figured i'd ask here since I googled and i'm out of ideas

I have a few Canadian bank notes from many years back (1954, 1979), mainly 20's. Now firstly, if I brought it to the bank, they'd be able to give exchange it with the current currency, right?

But my main question is - would there be any easy places to "sell" it for a bit more then it's worth, since it's so old? I googled, and a 1954 circulated 20 dollar bill is worth ~$30, and I was wondering if there were any places that I could just go to, give them the $20 note, and get $30 back. I know it's a long shot, but i'm kinda a noob with this (most people probably are, actually) and any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance!

also - don't say ebay or craigslist or something

Theres a coin/jewlery place in metro that deals with old coins and currency. The name escapes me right now but i believe its near the big BMO in metro. I'll try to get the name of the store for you, i have a currency book from them with prices according to condition etc.

Hey I found the book again!

They no longer have a metrotown store but they still have their original store. It's located at 127 East Broadway. The place is called J&M Coin & Jewellery Ltd.

Google map: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&sourc...3&z=14&iwloc=A

I also checked in my book, although 10 years old, J&M prices a Very Good condition 1954 $20 bill at around $28.

And they also have a site if you want to check that out: https://www.jandm.com/systemhome.htm

Enjoy!

BTW: 1954 is also a year with the "Devil's Face" make sure you check if yours is or not. I haven't dealt with J&M in a long time and you never know if someone tries to rip you off, as the "Devil" is not the same value as the "Modified" ones.

Oh and the site has a catalog with updated prices and values.

Hey for them to take your bills,

they have to be crisp, and no folds in the corners.

what if there's a fold or two on the bill?

and will they still take them for normal price if they aren't in the best condition?
