Daniel Tenner has spent a lot of time thinking about (and taking) naps. What follows is his experience learning to master 20 minute power naps even though he normally takes 30 minutes to fall asleep.
Good article. I do this often on Saturdays before going out. I can be dead tired and without any drugs be up till noon the next day after one.

so is this about the dog power nap

twitchyzero 03-26-2010 10:02 AM

power nap only works if you had very little/poor sleep the night before
usually it'll take a few hours to enter REM sleep (effective deep sleep)
however if you had little REM sleep the night before you'll brain will "cheat" and enter REM almost immediately after closing your eyes.

at least its what i learned in my pharmacology class lol
a really helpful tip if you're a uni student or work graveyards.

hmm..

is pizizz worth it?

Ulic Qel-Droma 03-27-2010 10:26 AM

yeah i rest my eyes
it helps

i can only really take "real" naps if im exhausted, and im in between work or on a bus or something i can pass out then i MUST get up to get back to work... happens a lot in the military, get a 5min break and i just pass the fuck out.

but at home im unable to nap at all. well i can rest, but it usually takes 30-60min to fall asleep so it really sucks. and if i fall into deep sleep in an environment like home (where i don't have to get up)... then I will not get up

many times i've napped after dinner before partying... but i just end up sleeping till the next day. hell even on work days. i can pass out after dinner and wake up and it'll be the next morning lol. I love sleep.

power naps are awesome. crawl into bed, close all the blinds, and when you wake up you're good to party.

If you find some alternate means of acquiring it without sacrificing any monetary resources, it's worth it.

I've been trying it for the past 5ish nights to fall asleep to and I've been dreaming and remembering my dreams every night. I don't usually sleep that well.

I wish, I don't think I've had a nap in the last 20 years. If I stay up all night I still won't nap. I'll wait until the next evening before going to bed. It's just what I've always done, feel weird sleeping during the day.

waddy41 04-25-2010 09:57 PM

when I nap I'm too lazy to wake up...so my naps usually lasts 3-4ish hours...

naps usually screws up my sleep cycles....
as well it wastes my day

twitchyzero 04-25-2010 10:04 PM

power naps are great during exam season

vafanculo 07-18-2010 02:26 PM

oh hell ya, In the winter I love it when I dont get the best sleep thinking about comming home getting baked and passing out right away. It's the best thing curled up in your bed right after work in the winter.

vafanculo 07-18-2010 09:43 PM

^ not really a nap, but one of my fave things to do in the winter on my day off is set the alarm for 430 am, get up walk around the house, have a few puffs, and get back to a nice warm bed lol

Me too. Meetings are the best. Sleep with eyes open. Took me a long time to perfect it. I've even learned to nod and smile while asleep.

Don't fight it when that happens. Just close eyes and let the body rest.

any tips old man? LOL

Harvey Specter 07-19-2010 03:48 PM

I can't take naps because I can't sleep at night. I've had 12 hours days with like 4 hours of sleep but I'll never take a nap.

mpr 07-19-2010 04:00 PM

I just took another power nap while typing this post up. so fresh now!!
