The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick-up Artists

I did a search on this topic and found a dead thread that was created years ago - I thought it was about time to shed some light on this book again.

Has anyone read this? I started reading last week and had just finished the book yesterday. It was both humorous and incredibly insightful. I just found it extremely fascinating how these PUA's were able to familiarize themselves so much with human behaviour and social dynamics that they were able to effortlessly break through what we generally define as "social norms".

Other books similar to this?

Havent read it, but even reading the title of the book makes me want to go out and buy it lol

Ulic Qel-Droma 05-05-2010 01:11 PM

the mystery method

there's a buncha other shit.

the book is like a nice story and general very very vague guideline.

you look up any of those mpua's shit in there and you can find tons of additional info.

uhh ross jeffries, david deanus or whatever his name was. all those guys all have info.

the book doesnt explain a lot, ross jeffries mentions anchoring. and gives a small example.
you can go out and find a lot more about anchoring and hypnosis.

its a funny ass book. every man should have it on his bookshelf whether he plans on going out and hitting on girls or just for a good read.

it's a well written book worth both reading and owning, Neil Strauss is an unique writer in many aspects
it scratches the surface of some of the most interesting styles of social attraction known out there, but don't expect to turn into no Don Juans just by reading this kind of stuff

Do what I did...download the e-book, haha.

It is a good book, definitely read it for its plot, but don't think that you can pull off any of the moves that was mentioned in the book without doing more research, because the instructions are hella vague.

neggo 05-06-2010 09:20 AM

Another note...

It was also very interesting to see how Strauss portrayed the lives of people who went in too deep in the game. Their ability to manipulate people ultimately became the main contributor to their loss of sanity.

I guess thats what happens when one person goes from a complete social outcast to a person able to manipulate aspects of society itself. Going from one extreme to another is never good.

this book is sitting in my room, havent touch it after first 30 pages... lol.. too lazy to read it

but pretty interesting

kaitamasaki 05-06-2010 12:02 PM

sorta read it but didnt find it that applicable for me, besides the rather vague instructions sometimes it is probably more targeted for a more western audience where the girls are more open, whereas I am an an asian going for other asians, they might be more uptight.

All you need is the bro code.

Kim Jong Un 05-06-2010 12:34 PM

What is this "bro code" you're speaking of?

eventually you're going to realize that the bro code will get you nowhere
it's cool to say "bros before hoes, that's the rule" when you're in highschool, but if your dedication to an intimate relationship rests on the bro code, you'll never gonna get far enough to settle down

besides, bro code won't give you a blowjob, make you a sandwich, and do your dirty laundry

Kim Jong Un 05-06-2010 01:12 PM

Bro code doesn't exist in my book I make time for all my friends/ girlfriends.

In the book, you find that he was able to attract women that weren't confined to westerners.

The book was very insightful. It was, however, by no means a book that could turn you into Casanova overnight. It was, first and foremost, a book you could read and thoroughly enjoy.

I read this book two years ago. It's a very good read. Much of the stuff that is mentioned or outlined is stuff that I already did. Biggest lesson learned from this book is that in order to pick up women, DO NOT make yourself available to them. No woman wants a man that they can have without effort.

Remember, people always want things that they can't have. I picked up this book after reading the first chapter and was intrigued more with the story of Neil Strauss. I like how Strauss focuses more on the life of a PUA and their experiences and not how to pick up women. Good read IMHO.

I think you have to follow the bro code to some extent. Like ex's are a no no?

Fun read.

The overarching theme seemed to be confidence. Just don't act like a tool and you'll be able to talk to girls, you don't need social dynamics or magic tricks (LAME!) to pick up chicks.

Plus, I highly doubt any of the 'methods' will be applicable to Vancouver's asian girl population.

Thank you! It is pretty much a confidence booster for most guys, reading people who can, if you so believe, would definitely help you realize that you can do it too!

wrong. it works on every type of girl. if you can read a persons emotions you can use it on anyone. it works on asian fob girls just as it works on white girls. they're culturally different so they obviously react differently, you just have to know what emotions are conveyed with each type of response. asian girls are more sly. you have to read around the words and be a little more gentle and playful.

yeah you two are right generally. but that's if you're in a general situation.
yeah if you're confident you're gonna do better than most men.

but hey, what if you're at a party with "super hot babes". and all the men around you, are just as confident or even more confident than you. what the fuck are you gonna do? be yourself? no, cuz everyone else is just as equal, you have to start pulling out the tricks or something that makes you stand out from everyone else. someone out there is always gonna one up you.

skyxx 05-07-2010 02:07 AM

You guys, you're staring at the damn book it self. Ulic is the BOOK.

u obviously don't understand what the game is about.

its not gonna work when u just follow what they did in the book. u'll have to have your own materials to make it work.

Does anyone remember Extramask in the early parts of the book? He was hilarious!
